I like the Sonys but I would try to get him to change it to the V3000. Since the 2500 is last years model.

Other than the format war bias, the Sony truthfully is a better TV. The Toshiba has a terrible contrast ratio and it just looks sloppy. Go with the Sony.

The V series has a 8 bit panel, you would get a much better display with the W series. Which is 10 bit.

No the V is a 10 bit as well.

10-bit Processing and 10-bit Display
While it's great to state that a TV is capable of creating billions of colors it's a whole lot better when you have a display that can actually display them. That's the logic behind Sony's 10-bit processor and 10-bit display. Sony follows 10-bit processing with a 10-bit panel, allowing 64 times the levels of color expression than an 8-bit panel. What that translates to is smoother transitions from color to color and subtle color changes faithfully reproduced.

I would buy a Sony Pioneer, Panasonic or Samsung. In my opinion those 4 brands are top of the line.

It has nothing to do with the format war but at the BB my b/f works Toshibas just sit there and collect dust, kinda like they're HD DVD players.

hmm I had never thought about that before

Sony or Samsung is definitely the way to go (practically the same, Sony is a little better PQ). Besides, I've had a Toshiba HDTV, and you could say Toshiba is Japanese for 'Good Enough', words they live by still. Seriously though, if quality is your goal, go with Sony.

the v2500 is 8 bit panel cus thats the old model.
the v3000 has a 10 bit panel like the w3000 cus those are new models.

and def def get the sony. Toshiba's have a issue with green push aka everything has a green tint to it that you are not gonna be able to adjust out easily at all.

Smile Samsung 1080P

Honestly, I would go a SAMSUNG 40" 1080P LCD w 25,000:1 contrast. For an amount just north of $2,000 it can't be beat. It has the deepest black of any TV in this price range.

Contrast can be pumped up by increasing white, as apposed to reducing the value for black is often the case for Full On/Off Dynamic Contrast over the more accurate ANSI static contrast. Many TV's are subject to this inflated and sometimes bogas contrast ratio. We are all, like the rest of the buying public, captivated by big numbers. Your right, I can't say Samsung is the best, but I did compare it against others on a display wall (an admittingly poor way to judge a set). To me, the rest show too much light leakage in dark movie images. Personal bias - we got four Samsungs in the house.

Get a Samsung if you can. You'll never look back, or consider another manufacturer again.

I thought I was crazy, everyone was telling me to get a samsung. I looked at a samsung at the store and thought the sony next to it looked much better. It cost a little more, but i love my sony. Of course this is just my personal opinion. I'd go to best buy or circuit city and see for yourself.

Overall, Sony = more expensive version of Samsung. :P I prefer the Samsung because of their design, but that's a "taste thing". As for PQ it depends on which models you're comparing...

My sister bought a bravia lcd, and I am not too impressed with the pic. My older grand wega projection has a far superior picture. Have you considered the Panasonic Plasmas? TH-50PZ700U and TH-50PZ77U.
