Default 'Jobs' - Steve Jobs Biopic starring Ashton Kutcher

Quote:
Ashton Kutcher to Play Late Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs

This sounds like an April Fools’ joke, but Jeff Sneider of Variety insists that it is not. (“The timing of the story is unfortunate but this information is CONFIRMED,” Sneider tweeted.) So here’s how the late Apple co-founder will hit the big screen: via the grinning mug of current Two and a Half Men and former That ’70s Show star Ashton Kutcher, who will play Steve Jobs in an indie simply called Jobs.

Variety says that Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote) will direct from a script written by Matt Whiteley, and that the film will follow Jobs’ life from “wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple, where he became one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of our time.” Will the film follow Jobs into his later days, meaning that we’ll see Kutcher in severe makeup to suggest Jobs’ illness? We don’t know.

The film will begin to shoot in May, when Kutcher is on his Two and a Half Men hiatus.

Kutcher has done some work that goes beyond the bounds of TV and romantic comedy, but despite being better than you might expect in a few films (Bobby comes to mind) he’s not generally thought of as a guy who can capture a well-known personality on screen.

The resemblance between Kutcher and a young Jobs has been noted more than once. [1,2] The header image and the one below have both been floating around at least since news of Jobs’ passing and the inevitable beginning of biopic talk. I’ll have to see footage, however, before being able to see this choice as something based more upon Kutcher’s ability to play the role than name recognizance and superficial similarity.

Kinda disappointing. I was hoping that Noah Wyle would return to the role.

It'd be awesome if TNT would make Pirates of Silicon Valley Part II with the same cast.

I firmly believe that he doesn't deserve or need a movie about him.

Agreed. Seriously, the movie will be about him starting Apple?

I say that it's way too soon for a film about him. I do find the Ashton Kutcher choice interesting because he does look like him a bit. He was a innovator though.

And an interesting bit of casting, as I never quite pictured the odd, elusive, driven Jobs to be played by a rampant narcissistic jerk like Kutcher.

(Oddly enough, this is one of the few examples where an older Tom Cruise would have been good casting...
Yeah, I know, but the lesser of two jerks.)

Well, we already have Wylie's interpretation of Jobs.. we really don't need another. If anyone wants that, they can just watch the previous films.

You mean for changing and saving the music industry, as well as computers and inventing the smartphones half the planet uses? Yeah let's hate him for being a visionary.

But let's make more needless Batman movies. Oh, and more Kill Bills, and any amount of other junk.

Jobs never invented anything. The first Apple computer was designed by Steve Wozniak by himself while Steve Jobs went on a "spiritual trip" around India and it was Jonathan Ive that actually conceptualized and designed the iMac, titanium and aluminum PowerBook G4, PowerMac G4, PowerMac G5, G4 Cube, iBook, Mac Pro, MacBook, unibody MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPod, iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad that transformed Apple into the company today that is the leader of smartphones and tablets. Sure Steve Jobs saved the company but don't give him too much credit.

If you think Jobs didn't have a hand in the products his company sold, you're sorely mistaken. any fo the ideas that went into his products came form his ideas; other technicians implemented them.

And you say "saving the company" like that's such an easy task... no other company has changed the face of technology in the past 20 years like Apple, and that's a credit to Jobs. if anything, Jobs isn't given enough credit. Not to mention his involvement in creating Pixar when no one else was interested in computer animation. Tech is one thing; vision is something very few people have.

But to each their own. The world would be boring if we all liked the same stuff.

It's not. And I have to say, in surprised by all the backlash. Kutcher has actually proven to be a very good dramatic actor in The Butterfly Effect and The Guardian. Given the right director and material, he can be a really great actor.

The only issue I have is Kutcher is playing a billionaire from doing computer stuff in Two and a Half Men. If he is going to play the same character that I would say no.
