Hated this on first viewing but it's grown on me over the years and now I like it.

Will be interesting to see if it's the same version as the USA/Canada have

Has £8.99 written all over it

Absoluut!

I have checked the disc and it has a full Dutch option with other languages too. See the cover:

The disc is multi-marked for Netherlands, Australia, Ireland, France, Germany and the UK. Let [some of] Europe have a big hug!

It is still in Play's 2 for £18 http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/3-/297282/2-/Promo.html

Yes I got the £18 promo in my inbox but just wanted to be sure as there was no mentioning at Amazon.
Cheers!

I second a comparison between the US blu-ray and the UK release. I do not know why, but it seems that all video releases have had the contrast turned WAY up... when I saw this in the theaters, I remembered the colors to be fairly good, with contrast levels at a normal level.

A good example is the LOCK STOCK trailer on the US dvd release: the green blocks in the punk's flat are... well, green. On the dvd (and blu-ray), the green blocks are more yellowish. The whites are also really blown out as well.

I can post screen caps of the US blu-ray if need be.

Wish there was a remaster, for such a good movie. Terrible transfer right now.

Would prefer to see the Director's Cut released on blu-ray. Chances of that happening are very small I fear...

I've always been put off buying this due to the transfer. I now see that it appears to be OOP

I'm hoping that means a new version is coming at some point, but I can't see why this would be OOP

Is it the best it could look on Blu-ray, or is there any chance the transfer could be improved?

I have the DVD and I might still find this somewhere for a decent price, but want to know if it's worth upgrading

Deserves a decent remaster including both versions and Ritchie's short film The Hard Case.

You mean it actually had a DI and they scanned and re-recorded the entire film just so they could do a ton of noise-reduction, sharpening and blown-out highlights digitally?

It can probably look better but it's never going to look stunning. It's a pretty ugly looking film.

I have the Japanese disc and no amount of Sony encoding wizardry can make it look any better.

I think it's the master itself that looks like ass.

With a proper hands-off scan I bet it could at least look beautifully ugly, instead of the just plain ugly digital compost heap we have now.

Interestingly the U.K. DVD master looks much better than the the master that was used for the BD. The ugly yellow tint and jacked up contrast are M.I.A.

Sadly, it can only ever look so good having been shot on 16mm film.

Which is thankfully enough to still look pretty freaking great when done right.
