I didn't know where to put this topic so bear with me. This isn't my idea but is coming from Dreamworks' Jeffrey Katzenberg who speculated on the future of movies and how much you could be charged for watching that movie based on the size of the viewing screen. Just when you didn't think it could get any worse, along comes Hollywood, and trying to find some justification to gauge moviegoers based on the viewing size of their smartphone, tablet, PC monitor, HDTV or theater screen.
According to Katzenberg: Quote:
Would you pay $15 to go to a theater to watch a movie? $4 to watch it on your HDTV? This begs the question of whether Hollywood is considering not releasing content to home video or if you'll still have to pay this "$4" or more fee in order to watch a movie or TV show you already own on DVD or Blu-ray. While movie ticket prices are bound to increase, as they have always done, the idea of charging consumers based on the dimension or size of their viewscreen they are watching it on doesn't seem that it could work. |
