Default cleaning blu ray discs

can you use the standard dvd cleaning techniques on blu ray, like those motorized ones that you spray fluid on? How about cd buffers can you use those?

I would just use my shirt / tissue and maybe some water...

How did your Blu-rays become dirty ?

Just put it from the case into the player, and the other way around ...

Oh, yes, used ones are bad...

I don´t understand what people do to their disc´s...

Just use some water and a tissue, that will help.

Use the same type of cloth you use on LCD and Plasmas.

Use tissues if you like to scratch stuff. Tissues are made of wood pulp. They scratch and leave lint. Don't use them.

It's my understanding that blu-rays are well protected with various types of coating. If I recall correctly, some plants use a coating called "Durabis" which can withstand 50-grain sandpaper. Though I'm sure no competent adult in their right mind is stupid enough to use sandpaper to clean a Blu-ray, a damp cloth would probably work fine so long as no liquid is left on the disc when you put in the player. In my experience, Blu-ray disc are more prone to freezing or skipping due to dirt or smudges while in play than are standard DVD's. I would guess this is due to differences in the laser, how close the laser is to the BD ROM or the angle the laser is aimed at the disc. That's my two cents.

I don't understand why some people handle Blu-ray discs so carelessly (even DVD's for that matter)... I've always been ridiculously careful with my discs... all the way back to CDs. I'm guessing a LOT of people on this forum take a lot of care with their Blu-ray movies.

A lot of the misconception started when DVD's were starting out. "They" started saying DVD discs were indestructable. Well, we all know that was stretching the truth a bit. I am anal about handling my discs. I freak out if I see the smallest speck of dust!

(Yes, I said anal... no jokes please)

Also a note: do NOT use a buffer or other scratch-removal agent on your Blu-ray discs. If you grind the surface hard enough, you will most likely damage the disc if you penetrate the scratch-proof surface.

Wiping with a soft cloth and some DVD-friendly cleanser should be more than adequate.

The few I have rented or borrow that where dirty I used Monsters Screen Clean and wiped it off with the towel that comes in the kit.

I haven't had a problem yet.

I use the microfiber bag that my oakleys came in to clean my discs. No water, no cleaners, just a nice soft microfiber that will clean it without scratching the surface
