Default Murder She Wrote Reboot

Proving they are completely out of ideas NBC has ordered a pilot of a reboot of Murder She Wrote starring Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer.

Quote:
The new version is described by Deadline, which first reported the news, as a “light, contemporary procedural in the vein of Bones or Fargo, it follows a hospital administrator and amateur sleuth (Spencer) who self-publishes her first mystery novel … [and her] avid fascination with true crime leads her to become an active participant in the investigations.”

Cause Ironside worked out so well for them, right?

So when all else fails "Black It Up" Or atleast that's what Silver Lining Playbook says.

Shocked they they didn't get a 22 year old Victoria's Secret model to play Jessica Fletcher considering how brain dead studio execs are.

Why is NBC bothering? Networks only care about getting younger viewers, which is why, despite strong overall ratings, Harry's Law was canceled. This is obviously not going to have strong demo numbers with the audience they want.

Seems Network TV is all but dead. Atleast for newer shows that is. It's not even worth watching any new shows cause they get canceled after 2 eps.

Cable TV is where all the shows are at. FX, TNT, USA and AMC.

Ugh, really? This is your answer to everything, NBC? How did 'Ironside' work out for you again? Oh yeah, it didn't. Just leave it alone.

Plus failed things like The Bionic Woman, Wonder Woman which never made it to TV among others.

Yyyyep. And likely an indignant, resourceful black Jessica Fletcher, as well.

(The only reason we got Angela Lansbury in the early 80's was likely because the network wanted to knock off Lansbury's version of Miss Marple in "The Mirror Crack'd".
And while Jane Marple was many things, she wasn't black.)

And sometimes not even then can you find quality programming. People can only handle so much TLC, Shark Week, or Storage Wars before they go insane.

I would rather watch reruns or DVDs of the original with Angela Lansbury!

I hate NBC!! They dick around Community and its creator Dan Harmon. Then they cancel Go On, which was bloody hilarious, especially Mr. K. Yet after that, after that they green-light this!!

Murder She Wrote...when I heard about this yesterday I cracked up, what type of audience is NBC going for with this..the younger kids never heard of the original show and the older folks who used to look at the original really don't care about a reboot.

Welcome to 2013, where Cutting the Cord(tm) is the trendy New Cable.
Folks are now just awakening to those Smart-apps on their flatscreen sets, and discovering that the reruns of AMC, FX and HBO were on Netflix and Hulu all along.
Along with the original reruns of Angela Lansbury.

Call it what you want but I would not support this particular reboot. They tried to reboot Ironside, they did the same with Kojak ... and they ended up cancelled (maybe because the changes to the main characters was so drastic that fans of the original versions of these shows didn't like the changes that were done).

You just can't replace Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher.

NBC Cancels Plans for Murder, She Wrote Reboot Series

Quote:
Although NBC announced plans last October to reboot the hit series "Murder, She Wrote," Deadline is now reporting that the network will not move forward with the new series. Instead, NBC is said to be looking at an alternate take to relaunch the franchise sometime further down the road.

The original series, which ran for 12 seasons beginning in 1984, starred Angela Lansbury as Jessica Fletcher, a retired-schoolteacher-turned-mystery-novelist who made use of her detective skills to combat the surprisingly high murder rate in her hometown of Cabot Cove, Maine.

Alexandra Cunningham ("Desperate Housewives") was writing and producing the new take alongside David Janollari. It was to star Octavia Spencer as a hospital-administrator-turned-mystery-novelist-and-detective.
