Default The #1 Hands Down Blu-Ray Player debuts!

Bold statement, Yes! So, who's is it? The Panasonic DMP-BD30. This player has every bell and whistle that this Forum has been harping about for months now. I don't see this as a negative, to a stellar experience, but the unit does not have internet connectivity !

Try to pick this one apart! I represent and sell the Sony ES, Pioneer Elite, Integra, Panasonic, and Samsung. This player outperforms them all. Marry this with a Pre-Amp or Receiver, that decodes all the audio codecs, and some excellent speakers and a sub, and you'll be in Nirvana land .

Why wouldn't they add internet connectivity? Doesn't that make this unable to go 2.0? I see that as a negative.

looks like it's one heck of a player... I'll stick with the PS3 for now though.

Whine, whine, whine !!! They wanted to make a statement with this product. Well ahead of all the other manufacturers and its not even November 1st yet. Nice timing! Fear not, that feature will come along, on the near horizon. My Sony rep's jaw dropped comparing the spec's between their BDP-S2000ES and the Panasonic at $ 800.00 less (with more features!).

So, go ahead and sit back waiting and waiting for 'your' feature, while the rest of us enjoy the finest in Blu-Ray 2007 technology. [Jim]

It's a great standalone player, probably will be considered the best for awhile but I still think the PS3 trumps it.

The PS3 is good right up to 2.0!
and the CELL does make quick work of load times.

I still want a stand alone though. =)

For the moment it will trump the PS3 until it gets its profile 1.1 firmware update and also DTS-MA & D-THD decoding. Can't wait for the update on the PS3.

JimPullan, after CHALLENGING people to "pick it apart" in your first post, the whole "whine whine whine" comment is rather uncalled for.

This player will help capping the BD player price. Any competitor units selling higher that $499 will be closely compared and scrutinized.

Thumbs up This unit looks like a real winner!

I am currently researching this product.

It is amazing for several reasons:
  • Profile 1.1
  • It outputs DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD both via bitstream
  • It has HDMI 1.3
  • It has the new Panasonic 45 nm chip (thanks for the correction dobyblue)
  • Reviews have been saying its Picture Quality is better than current players
  • It has fast loading and start times
  • It has the SD memory slot to provide for persistent memory requirements. Will also hold bookmarks, etc after power-off
  • MSRP is $500 !!!
  • Panasonic makes quality A/V equipment. Some of their DVD players were legendary

I'm not whining or waiting as I have a PS3 and I'm happy. I just don't understand why you wouldn't add internet connectivity since the player is by far the best...why not future proof it as much as possible?

This is a pretty slick looking piece of hardware though
I think everything put out now should have built in WiFi as standard.
The built in WiFi in the iPod Touch works great no reason why they can't fit it in.

I stated right up front about the lack of internet connectivety in my preface. All the grumbling here on this Forum has been - why does it not have Profile 1.1, why does it not pass dts-HD Master bitstream, etc, etc. Well, this Player is at the pinnicle, now, right through the holidays. [Jim]

$500?!?!?!?

What is the reason I should buy this and not a PS3?

Go Blu!

Since I already have a good player, I'll be one of the ones waiting for 2.0 to come around w/internet capabilities. I do agree, though, this is one really sweet machine...
