Shout! Factory will be releasing The Manster (aka The Split) (1959) on August 29th. Reports are that it will be sourced from a new HD transfer, and will be uncut (credit to Jobla for that info).

Synopsis

Before your startled eyes, a man will change into a monster!

An American reporter in Japan becomes the unwitting guinea pig in the experiments of a research scientist in this tale of ambition gone berserk.

Larry Stanford assigned to a story on evolutionary theorist Dr. Suzuki visits his secluded laboratory high in the mountains for Japan. Unwittingly injected with an experimental drug, Stanford becomes increasingly bitter and irritable towards his boss and his wife. Then one day, the appearance of a third eye on his shoulder hurls the reporter into a state of terror. The eye soon develops into a second head setting in motion a rampage of mayhem, madness and murder.

THE MANSTER (aka THE SPLIT) was originally released as the second half of a double feature. The first film was a dubbed version of Georges Franju's horror classic, EYES WITHOUT A FACE (re-tittled THE HORROR CHAMBER OF DR. FAUSTUS).

Yay, I can finally replicate the double bill with Eyes Without a Face!

But yeah, I want to own this one since I only own one on the numerous crappy public domain DVDs.

No bonus features outside a photo gallery, but PQ and sound quality is pretty good.

My copy should be arriving today from Amazon. I remember this movie being bizarre, and quite risque for its time. I'm looking forward to revisiting it.

Years ago, I remember being super impressed with a young girl, from my home state of Michigan, who cosplayed as the Manster at G-Fest, with a grotesque second head. That is a deep cut, skipping the Mothra fairies and going straight to the Manster!

The fact is that this blu-ray will be the first time anyone will really be watching a quality transfer of it in...well...ever after years of lousy dollar bin semi-bootlegs.

The LD was really good for its time, but it was in one of those expensive MGM box sets.

Not at all.
There has been a very nice HD version streaming for years.

Hey Bruce, YES they give you photo credits at the end of the slideshow!
Great photos, especially love the movie poster art.
I'll have to check out your website, they mention Cinema Arcana in the credit!
