I admit I can't bear to throw out a Blu and usually just donate it somewhere if I hate the content or the transfer, but I came close with tossing SHUTTER ISLAND in with the banana peels and rancid soy sauce.

I've never considered throwing a disc away no matter how terrible, if I don't like the movie I sell it on E-bay and make some money back.

I've got a spare of Alien Resurrection that I'm considering binning (I'll keep the case though). I've offered it up for free elsewhere (with £1 postage) and had no takers. I think I'll have to pay them to take it off my hands.

This was my problem with SHUTTER ISLAND, no friends or family wanted it and it was selling for a penny. I finally just gave it to my local library for them to try and sell it in their used bookstore. It sat on their store shelf marked down to 50 cents for two years, then one day it was magically gone!

Subspecies.
Awful movie. I bought it used for a couple of dollars at a pawn shop and still paid way too much. I paid so little for it that it wasn't even worth trying to resell or give away so I just tossed it. Last edited by PopcornBandit; 03-23-2015 at 10:49 PM. |

Throwing it away is just stupid.
Even if my net take was only a couple bucks (after shipping and fees) - I usually go to eBay just to avoid just tossing it away. In cases where it is literally not worth anything, I would drop it at a goodwill or library. Other option would be to look for recycling. Not sure if Best Buy does that now that upgrade and save is long gone, anyone know if they have a bin for DVDs/blus? I usually try to recycle my old electronics and batteries. |

I'd never put a movie in the trash. I replaced a dented steelbook not too far back, and took the old one down to FYE. The guy told me it was worth a dollar, but he couldn't take it because it was missing the J-card with the UPC. I told him the store could have it and he told me just to keep it. I went home and came back about twenty minutes later with the J-card from the new one. He looked pretty disgusted as he handed me my dollar, but overall, I was pretty satisfied.

This past January, I went to a Landfill Operator Certification course for a week so that I could inspect landfills as a part of my job. The course was extensively thorough, and it covered all of the aspects of a landfill operation from the siting requirements through the closing process. Landfill operators work according to a design plan that necessitates a certain amount of time that they are able to take in garbage before closing, and most landfills have to be maintained throughout their closure for a minimum of 30 years. This is a hugely expensive undertaking for both the operators and the communities in general.
So, please do not throw your Blu-rays away. There is no need for them to go to a landfill. Somewhere out there, someone will be happy to own your disc. I always leave unwanted Blu-rays or DVDs that cannot be sold on the mailbox area of my apartment complex, and they are always gone within hours. It's nice to know that they found a home somewhere instead of ending up in a landfill. |

![]() I figured it was all I can do after leaving Vicious to infest the world. I simply returned that one, made possible by none of those features listed really being on disc, gave me that extra excuse needed to return it. Item is still the worst movie I can recall ever seeing (look at my collection and know, I love bad movies! I own both Birdemics!), Vicious an easy 2nd worst. These things will ruin days, waste hours and destroy the family, they should all be destroyed. Buy that copy for 50 cents at the pawn shop and throw it the **** out! The reward you'll feel for helping save someone from this will be great, far better than anything else you can get for 50 cent! We can stop this plague, we really can. ![]() Also avoid at all costs: ![]() That was semi-serious. On a serious note, since most movies aren't that bad, the library is good to give your old unwanted discs to when they hope to sell for pennies on amazon. Pennies on amazon mean nothing on ebay. If the library doesn't want em, try and recycle. I do recycle but after seeing the Inside Man episode about it, am pretty sure all those recycled discs ended up in a landfill anyways since more than half of plastic can't be re-used. ![]() Last edited by bigdaddyhorse; 03-24-2015 at 12:29 PM. |
