I'm looking forward to seeing this also, but i've heard some negitive reviews about it.

It's not surposed to be anywhere near as good as Band Of Brothers which is a shame.

I bought sky movies HD especially for this and i was very disappointed. It looks great in HD but it is way out of Band of Brothers league in terms of story and acting.

This series is not what i expected at all. Too much drama, at times I had the feeling as if I was watching a soap opera. There are some really intense scenes but all in all Pacific doesn't even come close to BoB.
Two things that were biggest letdowns for me:

[Show spoiler]
+episode 8 if i remember correctly - 45 minutes about John Basilone and his future wife and 5(!) minutes of the battle for Iwo Jima. I mean, seriously? who came up with that? 5 minutes of the biggest battle of WWII on the Pacific - in a series called "The Pacific". bravo...

+the concept of main characters - all of the soldiers that we meet at the begining basicly "go home" after 5 episodes and the viewer gets to follow new characters. I felt like watching Pacific 1 and then Pacific 2 this is my biggest problem with this show, compared to BoB

I've just watched the first 7 episodes this week from my HD planner. I've got to agree with some of the other comments on here about the show. Unfortunately it's nowhere near as good as Band of Brothers. Characterisation is lackluster and the ongoing stories just don't seem to be as compelling. It looks great and the level of detail in many scenes is outstanding but all in all so far I've been dissapointed and if I'm honest fairly bored!

Oh and this may be totally off the money for everyone else, but I feel like the Pacific War is just a forgotton part of the WWII conflict for us Europeans. It just seems less interesting from my point of view.

Yeah I might do the same. I've heard it has an incoherent story unlike band of brothers.

Yeah, same here. I had it on preorder but cancelled it. I'll wait until really cheap.

The book was a mess too. They made the huge mistake of going away from the Band of Brothers concept (that also worked with Generation Kill) to more of a Band of Individuals. They should have just stuck with one group. Hell they could have just done it from E B Sledge's book and stuck with that group, but hey, Ambrose wouldn't have had any need of involvement then...

I simply can't wait, let us hope that it comes in a tin like Band Of Brothers, it will look stunning next to it. Although I prefer Band Of Brothers as a series, The Pacific was still fantastic, and I did enjoy it.

I don't understand some of the negative comments regarding The Pacific. The worst thing that anybody can do before watching this is think that it's going to be BOB but set in the pacific.

The European conflict was so drastically different to the pacific that you simply can't compare!! BoB was obviously about the unique bond between the men in E Company where the pacific focuses more on the horror of war and how it effected the men during and after combat.

Bananek

Yes Iwo Jima was a major conflict but John Basilone was killed on the first day. Why would they carry on showing it if it doesn't involve one of the 3 main characters?

I'm no fan boy either, the series isn't without flaws (the main one being the episode length, some clock in at just 45 minutes) and episode 3 was totally dedicated to the troops spending time off in Austrailia. But the 3 episodes on Pelilu are the most intense portrayals of combat ever recorded on film.

The acting is fantastic imo. Rami Malek is amazing as Snafu and James Badge Degale does some good things as well.

I strongly urge that those who haven't seen give it chance. Most people have seen all of BOB countless times and I think it is sometimes held in such high regard that nothing will ever be comparable. I think this is a disadvantage to those who have only seen The Pacific once as they are not as familiar with the charcters/story. If you want it to be like BoB then save your money and watch BoB, it's that simple.

Going to be ordering the HMV Exclusive, Play.com Exclusive and Amazon Exclusive, going to be very costly!

If anybody would like a copy I will have 2 spare, only going to be keeping the Exclusive extra. So let me know if you want one, if you are going to be ordering a copy anyway.

Yeah, but that is what they should have done. They went away from a Band of Brothers concept (which works) to something that foolishly tried to cover a whole varied lot of the pacific conflict. It was like if they'd done Band of Brothers with half a dozen units in various operations, or Generation Kill from the perspective of half a dozen different units. Neither of those shows would have been anywhere near as good or in depth if they'd tried that. The execution was just a waste of the opportunity, and that is what annoys me. It is like they just "had" to get the involvement of an Ambrose, so they could give credit to him, rather than say just taking EB Sledges book and done it on that and not even bother with Ambroses rambling book.

That's my plan as well, that's what I got BoB for, less than half the price it was selling for in the US. Pacific might even drop lower as it won't be nearly as popular as BoB.
