Default Do BOGO deals hurt sales of new releases?

Do you think all the Bogo deals hurt sales of New Release's or even new movies on BR like Cars.

Rat sold well but not as well as most of us thought. And 65:35 was alot closer then I would have thought. Still good but thought it would have been more 75:25 or 80:20. I think it sold 60K. I could be off. I was thinking it would sell more like 90K or more. I think so was everyone here.

Cars was very low as well.

Do you think people are now waiting for BOGO deals instead of spending the money on new release's? I know I am now. Learned my lesson. When CC had their BOGO deal I went nuts with BR

Then told myself to just wait for these to be on sale instead of paying top $$.

I love Bogo deals dont get me wrong but in a way I think they make people wait to buy the New release's and it hurts sales for them.

What do you guys think?

Chris

Well Chris, I think that's an interesting question. With people spending their money on the BOGO's ... they may not have enough left for the newer releases. Or, they'll just wait for them to go on sale in a couple of months.

But, the BOGO's do offer an excellent opportunity to grow your BD collection quickly ... and relatively inexpensively.

Yes it does. I went crazy when CC had it. So now I just wait and can buy 2 for the price of 1.. I dont have to have it right away now. Before I did.

I havent participated in a BOGO yet. For one reason or another, I never seem to have money for one. I admit it is a ***** when there are great movies on a BOGO that I dont buy, but I am someone who NEEDS new releases when they come out. If I buy that and miss out on a BOGO, then I just cut my losses and buy when I have money.

Hopefully I have money when the next real solid round hits. But if not, I just wait it out for the next one. Currently I have been saving money for Nov 20th, Dec 4th, and Jan 8th. I will be BROOOOKKKEEE on those three days

I don't think that the B1G1 deals hurt new release sales at all. For example, I picked up 6 titles this week from Amazon that were part of the sale. They were all titles that I was on the fence about buying before, enjoyable but not worth paying full price in my opinion. I still picked up Close Encounters and Masters of Horror volume III, and if it had come down to what I could afford then I definitly would have cut back on the B1G1 titles rather than the new releases. Of course this is just my way of thinking but it makes sense to me

I don't think so. There may be some that wait on a sale, but I think most folks buy what they want when it comes out. Some titles such as Rat and Cars I knew I was going to buy and wasn't willing to wait for a BOGO.

I did some BOGOs just to get "second tier" titles that I might not otherwise buy and to take chances on films I have not seen. "Well, if I don't like the movie a lot, at least I didn't pay for it, or at least not much."

For the "first tier" titles, I'll get them no matter what. And I'll get them when I want them. I won't wait for a sale. Nothing will stop me from buying a title I really, really want!

For day and date releases it doesn't change my habits but on catalog titles I'll wait for a BOGO to pick them up.

To amplify what others have said, I can really see BOGOs impacting sales on a weak week such as the week after next when you've only got movies like Paprika and Omega Man coming out new. If Fox does a BOGO that week, I think those two new titles are going to suffer. And the following week has titles like Independence Day and Pirates: World's End. People are prolly going to be needing money that week to buy those titles.

The last week of November is going to be dicey for Blu vs Red.

Lightbulb Think about it!

Its not hurting sales on popular new releases like Rat and Cars...it just extends the sales over a larger part of time...the BOGO sales that Disney is having is bringing in a ton of profit for them. They have people that specifically plan the release dates of their movies and when BOGO sales occur...they know what they are doing and know that YOU WILL go back and buy popular titles like Cars and Rat!!!! It keeps these movies going unlike Transformers which is barely on the top 100 at Amazon.com because it died out quick--what other choices and sales did HD-DUD have??????????

i think it did, but nevertheless, a great blu-sales occured.
Die hard is one of the example. it does not appear often in top ten BD in amazon chart. the only thing that is not affected is Ratatouille
