Default Resistance : Fall Of Man Currently 22GB!!!

Yes I said 22 Gigabytes. Insomniac's much hyped horror/alien 1950s shooter is currently taking up 22GB of Blu-Ray's space. The whole story can be found here.

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/153...headlines=true

The 22GBs of space is mostly taken up by the game's high, big textures, level data, programming code, etc. The sound data currently takes up 1GB.

Quote:
Schneider offered some distinguishing stats (which he called MTV News on Tuesday to further clarify). The game, he said, currently takes up 22 Gigabytes of memory on a Blu-Ray disc, the new disc format supported by the PS3 that is one-half of a VHS-vs.-Betamax format war erupting between tech companies throughout the year. While the music and vocals in "Resistance" take up only about 1 Gigabyte of disc space, graphics, level data and programming code occupy most of the remaining 21.

"We're going to fit more on a Blu-Ray disc than you could on an HD DVD," he said, referring to the competing format, which in its most basic discs can't hold more than 15 GB. More numbers: 40-player online matches at launch; 60 levels of player progression while playing online; two-player offline co-op. Phillips promised better, deeper support than any Xbox Live launch title.

So it seems like the PS3 games will be using up the space of Blu-Ray disks. Here are some new screens

The level of detail and graphic are insanely high

The level of detail in this guy's face is truely unbelievable

These guys seem like suicide bombers

Also note that these were taken from June/July and before the polishing went in.

In my opinion, Blu-Ray seems like it will be the biggest advantage that the
PS3 will have over the 360 considering that the textures will be uncompressed or less compressed, higher bigger textures, bigger level code, programming code, sound, etc.

But this suprises me considering that this is a FPS(though the graphics are jaw dropping), so I wonder how much space FFXIII will take. A game that cannot be done on the 360.

Here is a new video on Resistance: Fall Of Man(though the image quality is horrible, noise, blurriness, etc.).

^ IMO this game is the Killer Ap for ps3. It will be a sleeper at first, then spawn success like Call Of Duty2 did on 360.

Just hope they get the gameplay right! it looks and sounds to be awesome.

Can't wait, as this right now is the ONLY game i've seen for ps3 i'm desperate for.

I like these shots:

It'll have to do... Yeah, it's looking like the lead game for the PS3 launch. I'll be playing it in 83 days. Whoop.

I've been keeping my eye on this title. My favourite FPS are wartime ones, so this has the perfect era, with the bonus of futuristic creatures - apparently they are not aliens.

This is looking absolutely superb though, I really hope it plays as good as it looks.

Who needs a $2000 dollar gaming rig when the PS3 looks that good at $500/$600. I know there will always be people who are going to be into PC gaming and are loyal to mouse and keyboard and all, but these newer consoles are really blurring the lines between consoles and PC games.

That game looks amazing... Almost has me wanting a PS3. Maybe I'll end up with one earlier than expected?

Does anyone else wonder why this is 22GB when one of the biggest, most open-ended and complex games ever made, Oblivion, is 5GB? Either this is all HD FMV or it's uncompressed.

I believe that its a combination of both. From what I've read, pretty much all of the textures are uncompressed. As far as the FMV, I'm unsure, but at that amount of space, its to be expected.

Uncompressed HDTV (1080p) is truly obnoxious in size -- on the order of 1 Gbps (around 7+ GB per minute) or greater. Just three minutes of uncompressed imagery would eat up that full 22 GB. Thus I doubt there is any truly uncompressed imagery on the disk.

However, there might be "studio quality" imagery which is minimally compressed (on the order of 100 Mbps or 700+ MB per minute). This would allow for very fast motion imagery with high contrast and lots of colors and still have no noticeable artifacts. Even 15 minutes of this (dispursed throughout the game as 15 seconds here, 30 seconds there, etc.) would only take up half of that 22 GB.

Also since this is still very likely Beta software/imagery there might be a LOT of redundant code and imagery in that 22 GB. If this is true, when it finially ships it could be as little as 12 - 15 GB.

^Weak attempt to hint that we don't "Need" 25gb or 50gb discs for games.
