LEGO Movie (2014)

Hey,

Don't know how a LEGO movie would hold up, but it seems that WB may develop a movie based on LEGO building blocks. (Wonder how this would turn out)

With the success of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra, movie studios are looking for the next toy they can turn into the next huge big screen franchise. Problem is, most of the good properties have already been snatched up, and we’re beginning to see Hollywood scraping the bottom of the barrel, acquiring the rights to board games and toys from yesteryear that either lack any recognizable narrative (ie Stretch Armstrong, Viewfinder) or no longer have name recognition from today’s kids.

I’ve become much less cynical about the whole process. When I learned today that Warner Bros is developing a film based on LEGO building blocks, my first thought was: hey, at least everyone knows what Lego is.


But what kind of story could be created using the toy building blocks? Most of the popular LEGO properties today involved other licensed properties. For example the video games and toy lines for Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman, Lego Indiana Jones and the video game Lego Rock Band (which I’m still trying to understand… what’s the purpose of the Lego involvement on that one?).

Warner Bros. Pictures is developing a movie around LEGO and its popular building blocks, reports Variety. Dan and Kevin Hageman are writing the script for the family comedy that will mix live action and animation. The studio is keeping the plot tightly under wraps, but it's described as an action adventure set in a LEGO world.

LEGO sparked to Lin and the Hageman brothers' embrace of core values LEGO wanted to include in a film, especially "a fun factor, creativity and that imagination has no boundaries," Lin said.

Anyone willing to place a bet the legos will be live action

lol i was just joking...the report says a mix of live action and animation....so i'm guessing the legos will be all computer

I could see this being HUGE. I'm actually looking forward to it. The humor in the games is great.

I am thinking wasting two hours in this movie, and all that happened in it was some child building something out of LEGOs block by block.

"Lego" Movie Details Revealed

Collider caught up with "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller to find out about the rumored "Lego" movie. Lord says that the duo got the gig by writing a 40-page treatment with a lot of images that got everybody excited.

"I don't know how we're exactly going to execute it," said Lord. "But I would say the vast majority of the film takes place in an immersive all-Lego environment. So it's going to star mini-figs and we've created these really cool characters and a really nice character story between these mini-figs. And it's going to take place in a universe that's made entirely out of Lego to the point where if there's water or clouds or like a big explosion, that will be made out of animated Legos. And our goal was to make it look like a super charged stop-motion. Something like if Michael Bay kidnapped Henry Selick to make a movie for him."

He added that the goal is to include as many of the various worlds of Lego as possible, even the "Star Wars" and "Harry Potter" Lego sets. Lord said: "We found a way to incorporate all of those worlds into having one uber world basically so that we can include all those kind of classic set pieces that you're used to seeing."

If it's an animated movie it could be funny. The humor in the games can be quite funny sometimes.


The game movie that really needs to be made though is Ratchet and Clank. I'm surprised sony hasn't gone this route as some of the humor in the last Ratchet game was hilarious (especially Qwark)!

Untitled Lego Project comes to theaters February 28th, 2014. The film is directed by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Chris McKay.

Warner Bros. has constructed a release date for its 3D Lego movie.

According to imdb it is currently filming.
