It ought to weigh more.

Isn't there a site where you can look up the specs by title?

They're marked on the inner ring. 25gb discs have BVSS etched in them, 50gb discs have BVDL etched in them.

What he said. Also the dl 50 has the soapy water effect going.

Easiest way is to look at inner ring, opposite the label side, if you see 1 bar code that is a 25g disc, 2 bar codes is 50g disc ... each bar code represents a layer on the disc

Does it matter? Is this the deciding factor on whether or not you are going to buy the title? As long as it has the specs and supplements you want, then why does it matter if it is BD-25 or BD-50?

Forgive me for I just don't see the relevance...

But based on your original question, wondering which one it is after the purchase boggles my mind...am I missing something here?

the OP never stated why they wanted to know

the OP never stated it was for discs that were purchased

BD50 could be a spec the OP wants

He did say it was for already purchased/owned ones, otherwise the question wouldn't have been with my eye, hence he would have to have had already opened it to tell.

That was the point of my response, wondering why it mattered? I just didn't see the reason for it? That's all...just curious.

I've seen two cases now where you've questioned why somebody would want to know something (how to tell the disc sizes, and whether the PiP is done with separate encodes on a specific release), but the last word of your last post probably explains it best. Some people are curious about the finer details. That is also how some of us figure out whether they are likely to run into problems in the future or not instead of just trusting those who tell us we should just look at the results and not pay any attention to why or how they are what they are (like Amir has tried). I'm guessing that curiousity is one reasons a lot of people are here.

that's a valid deduction only when you assume the disc wasn't rented from a store or borrowed from a friend

Hi,

First of all, thanks for all the responses.

I was just curious about it, because Iīve read that a 50Gb Discs could make a better Picture...

I already own a 50gb Disc
( I know it, because I looked at the database here )

but, I havenīt noticed any big difference between the 25 and 50 one in PQ... (both Sony)
So, I bought 2 movies yesterday, ( just 4 fun, IT`S BLU-RAY! )

one of them was "Thir13en Ghosts"

but I couldnīt look at the database here, bcause itīs not released in the US yet...

So, I looked at the case,... but there was no Info about the disc storage...

But the trick with the Barcode Rings helped me out.
Now I always know if it is a 25/50Gb Disc

Thnkx!

Oh, and BTW:

"Thir13en Ghosts" is a 50Gb one
