![]() ![]() Universal is a concert film by Lasse Hoile which superbly documents Anathema's one-off performance at the Ancient Roman Theatre of Phillippoplis with the Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra (orchestrated by Dave Stewart). Presented in a generously illustrated dvd-sized media-book, this is a limited edition 4 disc version - 2cds, DVD and Blu-ray - which features bonus audio content and footage of the band recorded at the Union Chapel in London on the Blu-ray disc. Pre-order for September 23rd release for an early bird price of £24.99 Standard and retail formats will be available closer to the release date. DVD / Blu-ray (bonus content on Blu-ray only): 1. Untouchable, Part 1 2. Untouchable, Part 2 3. Thin Air 4. Dreaming Light 5. Lightning Song 6. The Storm Before the Calm 7. Everything 8. A Simple Mistake 9. The Beginning and the End 10. Universal 11. Closer 12. A Natural Disaster 13. Deep 14. One Last Goodbye 15. Flying 16. Fragile Dreams Extras: Encore From Plovdiv: Panic Emotional Winter / Wings of God Internal Landscapes Fragile Dreams A Night At The Union Chapel: Kingdom Thin Air Angels Walk Among Us A Natural Disaster Fragile Dreams CD1: 1. Untouchable, Part 1 2. Untouchable, Part 2 3. Thin Air 4. Dreaming Light 5. Lightning Song 6. The Storm Before the Calm 7. Everything 8. A Simple Mistake 9. The Beginning and the End 10. Fragile Dreams Pre-order details I love this band's last two records. Expansive and uplifting stuff. This looks to be a situation similar to Get All You Deserve where the CD's are exclusive to the 4-disc package, but not sure I'm going to bite this time. |

I'm going to order the blu-ray only version once its announced.
Not heard any music from Anathema until I saw this announcement. Now listened to a few download/samples and I'm convinced this is going to be a worthwhile investment (I.e. I'm going to listen to this heaps!). Good place to start for some listening here: http://www.anathema.ws/ |

The only draw to the big set is the CD's, for me anyway.

You can get lossless 5.1 mixes of two of Anathema's albums, both are awesome. I love the song "Everything" from "We're Here Because We're Here" which is available pretty cheap online and the 5.1 mix is done by Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson. The most recent album was released as a CD+DVD-V which featured a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 mix but the label subsequently released a .flac lossless version at the request of fans made available through their website.
If you love surround for music, these should be added to your collection. |

I'll have to look into this flac version. I am familiar with flacs in stereo but I am not familiar with flacs to make surround sound. Thanks. |

Amazon have 2-CD sets and MP3 versions of Universal available for Pre-Order now. So if you got the deluxe edition for the audio version you can cancel that. I'd prefer to get the CD version since the MP3 one has every track up to "Flying".

I'm not really sure to be honest, I just ended up going with the 5.1 flac. I have the DVD for the one that has the DVD-A 5.1 on it but haven't ever booted up the DVD-V layer to see what's on it.

Should be noted that Blu-ray.com has the release date on this wrong. It's out today.

I thought that was strange. I assumed that it would be 5.1 but there is definitely only a 2-channel option on the disc. I picked up the cd/dvd/blu ray version & the whole thing is done really well with the exception of the lack of a surround sound option. That's a big miss in my opinion.
The 2-channel sound is decent but it could/should have been better. Maybe having the orchestra there made a surround mix difficult? PQ is excellent. While I'm not a huge Anathema fan I really like this disc. |

Perhaps not the right forum but I thought I would get the right target audience by bumping this thread.
Can anyone comment on what format the audio is on the DVD included with the new Anathema record, Distant Satellites? Amazon has this listed as a 2 disc set. The version I saw at Best Buy was one disc but on sale for $9.99. Thanks. |

There's a Japanese edition with a Blu-ray disc, available on their Amazon site.
