You can get lossless 5.1 mixes of two of Anathema's albums, both are awesome. I love the song "Everything" from "We're Here Because We're Here" which is available pretty cheap online and the 5.1 mix is done by Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson. The most recent album was released as a CD+DVD-V which featured a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 mix but the label subsequently released a .flac lossless version at the request of fans made available through their website.

If you love surround for music, these should be added to your collection.

I've not really ever listened to this band, but they sound like they could be interesting. Is the DVD with the album essentially useless if you don't care about the dolby 5.1 mix then? I see the plain CD version is only $7.99 on Amazon but if I want the CD+DVD, I'd have to go the eBay route through an importer/exporter and pay several dollars more.

I'll have to look into this flac version. I am familiar with flacs in stereo but I am not familiar with flacs to make surround sound.

Thanks.

I am buying this. Absolutely love these guys.

You guys should check out Ayreon and Andromeda for a couple of similar bands.

Amazon have 2-CD sets and MP3 versions of Universal available for Pre-Order now. So if you got the deluxe edition for the audio version you can cancel that. I'd prefer to get the CD version since the MP3 one has every track up to "Flying".

I'm not really sure to be honest, I just ended up going with the 5.1 flac. I have the DVD for the one that has the DVD-A 5.1 on it but haven't ever booted up the DVD-V layer to see what's on it.

Should be noted that Blu-ray.com has the release date on this wrong. It's out today.

I thought that was strange. I assumed that it would be 5.1 but there is definitely only a 2-channel option on the disc. I picked up the cd/dvd/blu ray version & the whole thing is done really well with the exception of the lack of a surround sound option. That's a big miss in my opinion.

The 2-channel sound is decent but it could/should have been better. Maybe having the orchestra there made a surround mix difficult? PQ is excellent. While I'm not a huge Anathema fan I really like this disc.
