Default Blockbuster has bait and switched again

Well BB did it again. They have now jacked their price by 20% for the plan I had. First they took away my two free rental coupons a month, then they put limits on in-store returns and now a 20% price increase. I immediately cancelled. If they are going to screw me, I will return the favor. I will either pick up Netflix now or do without for awhile. I got tired of having to have 80 titles in my queue just to get a movie and then taking months and months to ever get the blu-rays I wanted.

WTF? I just got this in my mailbox. I'll be cancelling as well. They aren't that great, and their store that I go to smells like an old high school gym room.

Quote:
As a BLOCKBUSTER Total Access™ subscriber, it's always easy to have the right movie during this holiday season with more than 75,000 titles, including great new releases like Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Bourne Ultimatum and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.

We know that during this busy time of year the convenience of BLOCKBUSTER Total Access is especially important to you. Have your movies delivered right to your door. If you want new movies right away, exchange in-store*. And with free shipping both ways and no late fees, it's easy to enjoy all the movies you want for as long as you want.

To continue to bring you the unmatched convenience of both online and in-store DVD rentals, your monthly subscription fee will change from $24.99 to $34.99. This adjustment† will go into effect on your next billing cycle on or after December 27, 2007. The benefits of your subscription plan will remain the same.

I sent them this email. Probably they won't care, but at least I sent it.

Quote:
Are you pulling my leg on this? A $10 increase on my service? Is this for real or did someone send me spam disguised as a Blockbuster email?

I like your service and all, but I will not renew at $10 extra per month. Sorry. Just not worth it in my book. I dealt with the increase a few months ago and saw no increase in service (a decrease actually, but that's neither here nor there), but $10 more per month is just pushing it too far.

Please explain why you feel it is justified to increase a subscription by that amount for your services, and then maybe I'll consider renewing. Until then, consider my relationship with Blockbuster online and in-store a thing of the past.

If this is true then I'm canceling and going to Netflix too! (the account is under my sisters email).
Blu-rays are horrible there as they are always on Wait. And even if there is one available the system skips it and sends a dvd marked more than 10 down!

Everyone that cancels please send an email to them stating where you are going!

Never had a problem with Netflix

Except for the USPS stealing a blu-ray every now and then

that's good to hear. I'm tired of blockbusters waiting. And instore isn't much better. They get some new releases like a week or weeks later (I just saw Ratat. and Cars today). And the older releases are 95% the same available since June.

Hate to tell you, but it can take weeks and weeks to get BD's from Netflix, too.

I haven't experienced that yet. I put movies in my queue a good 2-3 months before they release.

Amazingly I just received this reply from Ballbusters.

Quote:
Thanks for contacting BLOCKBUSTER Online Customer Care.

Our goal is to strike the right balance between providing great value to our subscribers and getting a fair return for the company and our shareholders. We want to provide a variety of subscription plans to meet the needs of all our customers, both in-store and online. It's important for us to give consumers the most convenient access to media entertainment, whether that’s through our stores or by mail, and are dedicated to doing that with flexible plans and pricing.

We've reviewed our pricing structure and have found that to get a better balance of providing great value for Total Access subscribers while still making it affordable for us, as of December 27, 2007, we have restructured the prices of our Total Access subscription plans.

Please note that we're not changing any plan benefits; you'll continue to get all the same great benefits and value from Total Access. Of course, you're always free to change your plan.
I just cancelled and upped my Netflix package. Screw Blockbuster. For $34.99 a month I can buy 2 or more BD movies (with the BOGO sales we have). Hope they lose a lot of subscribers over this.

Despite getting the movies I want on the queue very early (about 6-8 weeks), I still have to wait very long for Netflix to deliver... May be Footloose has a "sweetie" looking out for him...

Now they are really taking the piss. Just got this as well:

I gave my feedback, but also cancelled their service. Doubt they care though.

Thats a 40% increase in price, ridiculous. I could understand a dollar or two increase but $10? I was using BB because it was convenient, but its not worth $35 to me.

Yeah everyone needs to make sure to write and tell them why they are dropping. If enough people do it, it will send a message.

Angry I just canceled too!

Their turnaround time via the mail has been pretty good, but the loss of most of my free rentals plus the price increase is too much.

I get the feelling that Blockbuster is a struggling company. Now that Hollywood Video is going under, how much longer for Blockbuster?

Blockbuster is a joke. They had a chance to purchase Netflix for $50M and passed, so they in essence dug their own grave. They simply can't compete with all of their overhead costs. Imagine how much it costs Blockbuster to maintain all of it's brick and mortar locations! Long live Netflix! They just need to start renting games!

My plan has gone from $17.99 to $34.99 in a span of four months and I've lost my free game rental.

Canceled!!

I signed up for Netflix and they have most of the movies (blu-rays) I was waiting for months for on BB, immediately available. If they can deliver than that will be great. I just had to let BB I was sick of their crap.

The first time they made the changes I got an e-mail saying since I had been a customer for so long my plan wasn't changing.

I still get 3 out at time with unlimited in-store exchanges and a free game/movie coupon for 17.99 a month

I'll check my e-mail to see if I got this new e-mail.

i just got done spending 2 hours putting my queue list on netflix. I had actually cancelled my Blockbuster to save up for January Blu-rays, but was gonna go back....and they still charged me for service this month, so I cancelled again.

Weird... the price hasn't even been reflected on their website yet. That'd be a nice welcome for anyone who signs up now, only to find out their next month will be quite a bit more.

Is it just the Premium plan(s) that got increased?

ive been a big fan of the in-store exchanges but this 2nd price hike in a few months is ridiculous. i have the 2 dvds at a time with unlimited in store exchanges for 21.99 and now its going up to 29.99! later blockbuster.

they will be bankrupt by this time next year the way they are going. netflix is about to get a ton of new subscribers...
