When I saw the film first-run in 1968, I vastly preferred the second half of it (when de Salvo becomes the focus).
I then saw the film again about 20 years later. At that later date, I much preferred the first half of the film, in which the police are searching Boston for clues and suspects. I wonder how I'll respond when I watch the TT BD? |

Will make for excellent company with 10 Rillington Place.
Tony Curtis was never highly regarded as an actor but he was absolutely magnificent here as De Salvo (even if true crime purists decry his portrayal as inaccurate.) His omission from the Oscar ballots that year was heinous. In addition to Fonda, the cast is a veritable "who's who?" of superb character actors, with a special shout out to the always-marvelous William Hickey as an eccentric mistaken for the suspect. Not really a movie I've clamored for on Blu-ray but I think I'll happily retire my DVD that I found at the bottom of a $5 Wal-Mart bin many years ago. Cheers. |

It's a shame this thread is so bare. This is an amazing film with probably Tony Curtis's most outstanding performance. The remaster leans a shade too teal, but otherwise it's an impeccable disc.

This is a very good film and great to have on BD. I think it's underrated and influential on the crime/serial killer film genre. I thought this might be one of those to sell out sooner rather than later, so I've bought it in the Screen Archives sale.

Blind-bought this in the recent TT/SAE sale, and watched it tonight. VERY stylish and well-acted and fairly sordid for the filmmaking era in which it was made.

just got it today. I used $15 in Amazon gift cards for it. so I got it for $5 out of pocket. I'd buy more Twilight Time titles if this were possible on more of them
The first time I watched it, back in the 80s, my mother came in and saw me watching g it and left. Later she told me that she and several other Army wives went to see it and all decided to stay in one home that night because it had them all very frightened. |

Does anyone know if the (apparently OOP) Plan B version from the UK has a better image than the Twilight Time, as it's not reviewed by dvdbeaver. Even though I would prefer the image of the Carlotta version, it's easier to get the TT version, while it lasts, but have no idea about the Plan B one.
