My first pair of "audiophile" speakers were the BIC Venturi Formula 4's. That was way, way back in the last Century!

I am looking to get some BiPolar like speakers to use for my surrounds.
I know Bic has the DV-5's.They have the 5 1/4 inch woofer in the middle and then a 3/4 inch dome tweeter and bass port on each side, about 90 degrees apart from each other. I know they have a dual voice coil so they can be run as a single speaker or they can be run as two seperate speakers for the side or rear surrounds. Since my back wall has a window right dead center of it,I would have to get two of these speakers and use them as sides or rears. The questions are.Are these speakers of good enough quality to use them in the home theater set-up I have going on?And then since the (2) tweeters are 90 degrees apart and the woofer in the middle would you position them as side or rear surrounds? I have a desk and bookcase on the right hand side of my room with the desk about middle way down the wall. Then the bookcase is at the very end of the right wall with the back of the bookcase on the right wall and the small side wall up against the back wall of the room. I am taking both of these pieces of furniture out of the room. That will let me widen my front speakers about a foot to 18 inches from the sides of my audio/video stand. And will remove the bookcase which will block and reflect some of the surround sound coming from the BIC DV-5 out of the side tweeters. So with the bookcase and desk gone,it will allow me to open up my surround walls and position these bi-polar type surrounds(one of the tweeter sizes)wide open, where it would not have been before with the furniture(bookcase, desk)in the way. So has anyone used or listened to these BIC Speakers? And if they have are they descent performers,or would they be a waste of time and money. |

actually changed to dv64's.. due to the price and the size of the room dont think 84 will have an advantage. any opinions? or will there be a huge difference in the acoustech set. otherwise ill just get that.

You're looking at the proud owner of 5.1 Acoustech set including the 2x pl-89's,pl-28 center, pl-66 surrounds, and a pl-200.
Being a HT virgin I just wanted good value. Pretty sure i got it. Also the receiver is a pioneer vsx-03 with a 80gig ps3. I'm just glad nothing went wrong, useally something screws up like the shipping, or wiring.. but it was all perfect. My only question is when the ps3 is set to LPCM the reciever shows pcm, is this correct? freaking dark knight broke my window too.. and it wasnt even that loud! -30db! p.s. I got them for $1k total Last edited by curse; 10-27-2009 at 04:28 AM. |

IN researching the BICs I have come to the conclusion that he DV62CLR-S is by far the best speaker in the Venturi line. It has received huge praise all over. The DV64 towers and the DV62CLR-S use the exact same drivers and tweeter. The only thing different between the DV62CLR-S center and the 64s is the cabinet. The cabinet is designed in theory to help produce more on the low end even though the speakers are exactly the same, so you be the judge of that. I actually just ordered 3 of the DV62CLR to use on my front stage, to have truly matching front set. If you are going to use a sub anyways, save yourself money and bypass the towers. Just by 3 of the DV62CLRs like I did! They are also cheaper to get the Ed Frias mods done on the centers!
