Question PS3 to Onkyo TX-SR705 connection question

Been coming to this site for several months but have only now signed up for the forum. Hopefully this question has not been asked before but here goes...

I have ordered the Onkyo TX-SR705 Receiver and currently own the Playstation 3. I was wondering if it is possible to use connect my PS3 I want to connect both HDMI and Component Video to the DVD input on the Onkyo then use Component out to my TV that has no HDMI input. With this set up I can use the HDMI connection for the better quality audio yet use the Component connection to my TV for the HD picture.

Any problems any of you can see with this arrangement??

Thanks for any opinions.

Take care....

You don't need to connect the hdmi and component from the ps3 to the receiver. Just run the hdmi from the ps3 to the receiver and then component from the receiver to the tv. That'll allow you to get the lpcm and dolby truehd audio (no dts-ma yet sorry) and the hd picture as well. The 705 can't pass 1080p via component but since your tv doesn't have an hdmi in I doubt it's 1080p so it doesn't matter for you. Remember to set your ps3 audio output to pcm and not bitsream, and your video resolution to 1080i or 720p and you'll be set.

Default Thanks

Thanks to you both....That makes perfect sense to me now....My TV is an early Mits that is 1080i only with one set of HD Component inputs. Cool that video passed over HDMI to the receiver can go from there to the TV via component video...

Have a great Thanksgiving....
