Default When is Blu-Ray going to start using the AVC/VC-1 codecs.

I read something a while back from a sony site that they would start using the Avc codec eventually. I was just wondering when they were going to start using it. I've been hearing alot of bad things about MPEG2 codec with blu-ray.

Fox just announced titles using AVC and apparently two of Disney's titles on Sept 19th are using AVC as well.

Oh noes!

STFU WITH TEH CODEC TALK YOU "CODEC NAZISS"!!!!!!!

^^ There.

I figured I'd get the fanboy outrage out of the way so we can continue on with a pleasant conversation now.

I can't even write that BS in jest without feeling like a complete idiot, and rightfully so. That's some of the dumbest crap I've seen anywhere in a while.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming...

Now. I have a question about codecs.
I tought AVC was not yet available in any of the current BluRay authoring software. Any idea what authoring system Disney and Fox are using to do it ?

Not authoritative by any means, but I'm reading a lot of talk that would indicate that they're either going to mostly use AVC or VC-1.

In other words: A lot of these studios are trying to get away from MPEG2 sooner rather than later.

Example:

Unlike most of the early Blu-ray releases from other studios, a number of Fox titles take full advantage of the format’s high-definition technology and Java-based interactivity, with AVC (MPEG-4 compression) and HD “Lossless” Audio.

I personally believe that the answer to 'where are all of the Disney and Fox movies' question is that they were waiting authoring tools for advanced codecs. The specs on the Fox titles are fascinating!

I just hope that they do better than the Japanese Virtual Trip AVC HD DVDs - they are on a par with Fifth Element...

That's what it looks like to me.

A year from now, or less, these will be like forgotten, bad dreams, lost in the ethos.

And I thought Fox would make a hundred of incrementally better versions of Star Wars. They might do it right the first time.
