When is Blu-Ray going to start using the AVC codec.

Now. I have a question about codecs.
I tought AVC was not yet available in any of the current BluRay authoring software. Any idea what authoring system Disney and Fox are using to do it ?

Not authoritative by any means, but I'm reading a lot of talk that would indicate that they're either going to mostly use AVC or VC-1.

In other words: A lot of these studios are trying to get away from MPEG2 sooner rather than later.

I personally believe that the answer to 'where are all of the Disney and Fox movies' question is that they were waiting authoring tools for advanced codecs. The specs on the Fox titles are fascinating!

I just hope that they do better than the Japanese Virtual Trip AVC HD DVDs - they are on a par with Fifth Element...

how many different versions do you think we'll see? This week they release the original theatrical 1977-83 of the original trilogy on dvd.

Im sure blu ray will get at least two different versions. damn you george lucas.
