written on july 14th. while the review may be acurate for the time, remember the sammy had that chip glitch. most likely, they were using that player at the time.

second, as stated in a previous article, discs have made leap and bound jumps in quality since.

lastly, while im not defending substandard equipment, we haven't had the real launch yet. we should never have had to deal with the hardware and software put out so far, but we also know the full weight of BR hasn't been put behind the product yet. that will be in approx a month and a half. at that point, we will know for certain if BR is to be shit-canned or if it is what we have all hoped.

Build quality pushes the price tag up. The only real difference between the $500 and $800 HD-DVD players is build quality! He never mentioned the $800 HD-DVD player being overpriced for what it is brings to the table. Why is that?

The reviewer only dressed one side of the manufacturing process. I guess few people know that the Blu-ray disc production process is done in less than half of the steps. That means you don't need to spend extra money on additional equipment and maintenance. That also means they need less space to produce their product. Blu-ray discs will be cheaper to make than DVDs in less than half the time.

He also talks about cheaper prices for consumers and helping the consumers out. What about the potential value of being able to offer The Matrix Trilogy with every extra imaginable on one disc to the consumers. What kind of cost savings would that be for the consumer? Plus, storage space costs the consumer money. I have over 1600 DVDs. I'm struggling for storage space. I would have less issues if I could get an entire season of "Lost" on 1 or 2 discs without losing any quality or extras. That not only saves the consumer money but it saves the industry money as well! HD-DVD is too limited in nature to really be a "next-gen" format. It's more like a "right this minute" format. This is the same limited visibility when it comes to the PS3's value. People talk about how most people don't have a HDTV in their home. Isn't that the very definition of "next-gen"? "Next-gen" is suppose to be able to take you far into the future not a couple of years down the road.

This guy probably won't change his tune even when Blu-ray movies quality eclipses those of HD-DVD. He will probably still try to find something to harp on.

How can a format that can only think 2 moves ahead out think a format that can think 6 moves ahead in a chess game?

And it's not an earth shattering difference by any means, believe me.

The MSRP of the Xa1 at $799? Not sure if it is overpriced, really...

I always thought that the Samsung BD player should have come out and matched that price.

God, imagine...

How abou a whole season of Lost in glorious HD on one list. 24? Prison Break? Star Trek?

Ya feeling me?

Too good to be true. That's why I don't think we'll see it anytime real soon.

They like making big money off of us suckers.

Hell yeah!

Short term, yes.

One thing people need to remember, in general, is: Formats evolve.

Compare DVD now to when it first came out a decade or so ago.

I have a handful of early first gen DVD's sitting around here somewhere, and I can promise you: They're almost downright unwatchable now.

Chicken and the egg argument.

The biggest gripe against HD adoption today is "Cost isn't worth the amount of content available."

You see guys balking all the time at even spending $10 extra a month for HD tiers on cable or satellite after they've bought their $3000 plasma at Best Buy over the weekend.

Then you have a lot of these gamers that will buy Xbox360's and PS3 DESPITE not having an HD set.

So it's all over the place.

I do know people that have told me that the Xbox 360 and/or PS3 was the day they were going to finally buy HDTV's, so take that FWIW.

I always tell people: Just put some HD football on that sum***** and watch 'em fly! It's true! Sports in HD, and especially football, sells HDs!

Probably not. Like so many others.

We shall see. 4th quarter of 06 is when the real games begin.
