Default The Pippi Longstocking Collection

The Swedish classic TV show is coming to Blu-ray on October 27. A four-disc set from Hen's Tooth Video.

I'm pretty sure that this is a collection of four movies made between 1969 and 1970 (hence 4 discs).

Also, the running time of the four movies (362 min. according to IMDb) is nearly identical to one listed on Amazon (370 min.).

It was originally a television series that was then edited into movies for the US market.

No, you're still correct! It probably is only the four movies that are actually making it to Blu, not the full series; I was just saying that some were derived from episodes of the show.

Actually the series was only made into two of the movies. The other two movies (Pippi In The South Seas and Pippi On The Run) were made specifically as features films and are based on the books of the same name.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pippi_...969_TV_series)

If this is the original series being released it should be the thirteen original episodes, not four films.

I see: part 2. Yeah, that makes sense. I just noticed that Hen's Tooth already released the collection on DVD,

This would be the DVD equivalent of the BD I believe

http://www.amazon.com/Pippi-Longstoc...H12AEXDJK0ZRJ1

It looks like it only includes 6 episodes. Also, it apparently has a newer dubbing that many don't like

Just a heads up that these MAY be censored. Some time ago, they removed certain remarks that were deemed offensive in Sweden (Pippi's father having the title of Negro king, and Pippi imitating a Chinese by stretching out her eyes). A lot of people were outraged by this decision, but the choice is also backed up by archive interviews with author Astrid Lindgren who said that had she written it today, she would have left that out. The edits really don't affect the story at all, just thought I should let you know...

That's why I said "some."

I doubt that the series will get a Blu release (the cover art in the OP is from the DVD release), it'll likely be the movies. Unless they're going all out and doing the episodes and movies for one set.

Not just for the US market. Germany had the TV show but also the movie versions.

It would be nice to get both.

Edit: Looks like there is a set coming out in Germany too but most likely only German audio.

Damn! Got so excited when I saw the announcement and I thought it was the mid 80's US movie.

It would be so great if the blu release had the series AND all four movies!

Hen's Tooth doesn't appear to be one of the labels that go all out, at least not from the handful of releases I have gotten from them, so I am not being too optimistic that we will get everything.

I would watch these films every time they aired on TV, channel 5 KTLA Los Angeles. They would have Pippi Week and air one of the films each night. My wife is a couple years older than I am and she's never even heard of Pippi Longstocking I asked her if she grew up under a rock well Tucson Arizona so close to it, ha ha. Great news about the set but I don't know how much I would enjoy them now as grown up. On the fence with this one plus its pricey.

My elementary school used to show Pippi from a projector.
It would would show every now and then on local TV, but she never mainstreamed.

She is one of the first heroines i saw as a kid.
Not counting cartoons and Wonder Woman, and the Bionic Woman.

Inger Nilsson fans can now rejoice. I wonder if she's still around?
