Default Is it alright for me to buy a 720p or 1080i tv?

They are so much cheaper and this is for the kids room since the one they have only shows green color now.

This is only to watch broadcast programing which is only 1080i or 720p anyway.

The kids will mostly watch children shows which are not HD at all and the TV may take some abuse since it is for the kids.

Personally, I don't condone buying a TV that is not futureproof. You may be able to enjoy a 720p or 1080i TV for the time being, but come a year from now, you'll kick yourself when looking at adding a Hi-Def unit for playback. I like to think that spending a bit more now can give you long-term benefits, instead of spending little for short-term benefits. Remember, in electronics, you get what you pay for.

Just one man's opinion though. Take it or leave it.

normally i'd agree, but if he already has a 1080p tv and he's using another for his children. why would he or the children care if it was or wasn't 1080p?

and besides, we'll start seeing 1440, 2160, etc etc soon enough

a 720 is perfect for that or a bedroom or kitchen, not for the main tv though in my opinion

I would just get my kids an old tube TV for 100 bucks. I dont see why kids need HDTVs at all.

Poor kids always get the shaft. One day when your old they'll buy you a low end tv b/c they'll figure your too old to know the difference .

age of the kids ??
Technology changes so rapidly the answer probably is....
go 720p/1080i

reasons;
small screen
little eyeballs who don't really care
remember, last year the standard was 1 mil pixels, this year 2 mil 60Hz, 120Hz
next year 4?? for the same price
Picture difference is there, but you really have to be into tech to appreciate it
