Default SyFy's Defiance (TV show + Game)

Syfy and Trion Team Up for Defiance

Quote:
Syfy and video game publisher Trion Worlds announced today that they would be collaborating on Defiance - "the first multi-platform shooter MMO which, in a ground-breaking entertainment experience, interconnects with a global television program by Syfy, cable's premier imagination-based entertainment channel."

Yes, TV and video games will collide as the first live gameplay demo of Trion and Syfy's visionary concept will debut at E3, June 7th-9th. Demos will take place behind closed doors at the Trion booth over the course of the three-day show. Select press and VIPs will see the first shooter-style MMO to play live on PC, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system.

On the television side, the Defiance series will be penned by Rockne S. O'Bannon, a legendary sci-fi TV writer best-known for his work on Warehouse 13, Alien Nation, seaQuest DSV, and Farscape. In an entertainment first, the game and show will influence and depend on each other, and even feature some players' characters on the TV shows as extras.

Trion and Syfy are collaborating on a massive event that will launch Defiance simultaneously as a global television program on Syfy and an MMO from Trion.

- Trion
From the press release:

"Set on a future Earth, Defiance introduces players and viewers to a world where humans and aliens live together on a planet transformed by decades of conflict. The game combines the intense action of a 'AAA' console shooter, with the persistence, scale, and customization of an MMO, while its TV counterpart weaves the rich tapestry of the world into a series with the scope, characters, and drama of a classic sci-fi epic. Because they exist in a single universe, the show and the game will influence each other and evolve together over time, with actions in both mediums driving the overall story of Defiance."

Cool

Another syfy that look's promising to me. Premiere's April 15 on the syfy channel. Watched the 1st 14 minutes on Defiance.com and look's sweet IMO, but will have to wait & see. But I'll still watch any ways.

Syfy's history of pulling shows makes it hard for me to commit. Still haven't forgiven them for pulling Alphas

Thankfully they've been good with Haven, the only SyFy original I watch (Lost Girl and Continuum don't count since they are imports). I understand your pain about Alphas though.

As for this, I'll see how it goes and pick it up on Blu-ray at some point if it gets released. This looks intriguing. Since I watch all three of the shows I mentioned above on Blu-ray, I can't watch anything on SyFy when it airs so I can avoid commercials for those shows.

I really hope it's good because I love Julie Benz and Jaime Murray. But I'm pretty much prepared for the chance of cancellation considering SyFy lately, and Julie Benz not having good luck with shows.

Exactly. The show has good quality invested in it. Sure hope its not a bust. To bad we can't have Syfy save their money by not green lighting chupracabras vs pythons and get them to invest into their core shows. What'll happen if Haven and warehouse 13 get the same treatment as Alphas, Battlestar G, Dr. who, ect.

Like the game a lot but the show looks pretty brutal IMO. The bonus Blu-Ray with the Ultimate Edition (Think it is in the CE too) with the sneak peak at the pilot didn't help change that opinion.

I have set up to tape the premiere tonight! I would watch it but it's 2 hours long and Bates Motel comes on at 10pm and I don't want to miss even a second of that.

I watched it. Graphics are what you'd expect. Story so far isn't really there as it was kinda all over. I'll try it again next week since I don't have much recording on Mondays. Plus Julie Benz is easy to distract whatever is happening.

I am watching now... I hope its good.

*Update

Was a typical overloaded pilot episode.... People introduced. Villain shown. Hero emerges. Tons of random crap going on. Back drop for the season set.

The show looks like it might have potential, but we will see what Syfy has put into it. Supposedly Defiance currently has a $100 million price tag.

First I want to clarify the $100+ million is for both the TV Show & Game. Its been a while since I read the article but it was something like a 60/40 split with them spending more on the game than the show which didn't make much sense to me.

Anyway, I enjoyed the show. Not sure which character I like more between the Major or Irisa. Always been a huge fan of Julie Benz but I'm also a fan of Irathients - even play one in the game. So as for me... I think the show is off to a promising start. Hoping they throw some hellbugs into the show soon. Those would be some scary critters to face.

I'm 30 minutes in...not impressed.

I would have been much more interested in a prequel to the show.

I watched it yesterday and thought that it was pretty good. Had a bit of a slow start but it got more interesting as time went on.
