Default Best quote on HD-DVD features

This was a funny quote giving the article was promoting a new advanced feature for HD-DVD.

"This feature gives HD DVD another edge with regard to enhanced functionality. Although Blu-ray movie sales have handedly crushed HD DVD since the inception of the format war, HD DVD titles have consistently contained more advanced bonus features."

http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/34992/98/

Maybe they should ask if these are the features that we really want considering the above quote.

Sweet merciless Meowth, why would I want to listen to Chuck Norris jokes when I watch a movie at home?

"One player will act as the host and is the only one who can pause, rewind, and fast forward the video."

uhhh....why would i want that?

:""Additionally, users will be able to use their remote controls to enter instant messages that can be sent to other viewers while the movie is playing."

i can do that with my computer or cell phone, and why would i want to do that during the movie, IM WATCHING A MOVIE NOT TALKING TO PEOPLES! Oh, Im sorry, I forgot, it would be really cool for the hd dvd fanboys to be able to text each other and say, "Whoa! did you see that awesome macroblocking!"

"Unlike Blu-ray players, all HD DVD players are required to have an Ethernet port for Internet connectivity."

My blu-ray player has wifi, i don't believe any hd dvd players sport that feature.

"Although Blu-ray movie sales have handedly crushed HD DVD since the inception of the format war"

yep! you're getting it!

"HD DVD titles have consistently contained more advanced bonus features."

like buying toliet paper instead of getting uncompressed audio?

"Additional HD exclusives for the release will be a picture-in-picture video commentary, a special chapter bookmarking feature, and the ability to access downloadable content."

so will blu-ray!

"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be available for HD DVD on December 11. A Blu-ray version is also slated for release but will not contain any of the bonus Web-enabled features."

and once again consumers will respond with a i don't give a fu$% and purchase half as many hd dvds.

what a wonderful way for pedophiles to meet little kids. send them an invite (what kid is going to refuse harry potter, the kid can watch the movie from the comfort of his own home, and is sexually solicited throughout the flick)

Why in the world would I want to watch a movie with someone else controlling the start and stop of the movie. I might as well be in the theater with people talking and interupting my movie. What if the idiot on the other end that I'm watching the movie with and is controlling the movie has telephone calls or has to go to the bathroom, all I will get the whole time is brb instant messages... no thanks for me...

Default Huh!

I suppose it's an interesting idea but I don't see any sort of use for it whatsoever and really I think it seems kind of gimmicky. I could see perhaps an educational application but even that has no present feasibility. This looks to be more a of a "you guys have better PQ..... but hey look what I can do"

hd dvd: the choice of child predators and pirates.

seriously, blu-ray should start running smear ads saying that hd dvd is a gateway to child predators, families would think twice before buying a player.

How about if the person controlling the film stops it halfway through (as so many people are fond of doing here... there's a thread out there about players "remembering where you last stopped the disc". Those of you who have read it will surely know what I'm talking about. You know who you are!!! )? Will it stop on your system too? Then, in order to continue, will you have to go chapter hunting? I agree that this is the stupidest idea on the face of the planet!!! If you want to watch a movie with people... INVITE THEM OVER OR CONGREGATE AT A MUTUALLY HABITUAL LOCATION! For christ-sake, make it dinner and a movie so that we, as human beings, don't lose our social skills. Interacting THAT much in cyberspace can't become a healthy trend.

The people behind the 1-900 numbers might find a use for this though.

Seriously, is the text message with the remote kind of like with a phone where you have to walk through the letters? Seems like it would be a whole lot easier to talk on the phone or use a computer for that part (although somebody might have mentioned that). At least with the PS3 people could have a keyboard hooked up.

You know what I don't get?

I've learned that the extras on Harry Potter are in 1080p on the Blu-Ray version...but not on the HD-DVD. Yet this silly online chat thing gets all the attention, while in an article about this one movie and the differences...it isn't once mentioned that the extras are in HD on BD but not on HD-DVD?

I mean, extra features are fun and all, but isn't having HD content more important? At least important enough to mention in a conversation about the differences between these titles? I know when I bought HDM, HD was more important than...online chat. Which...my BD player does anyway. Heck, I'd suppose Sony could get the XMB overlaid on top of games and movies and therefore offer online chat to more BD owners on every single movie than the entire HD-DVD user base. Of course, Ill be honest...I still wouldn't use it but I just find it odd so many make a deal of these little functions while ignoring the biggest difference between these two versions...ie, one has a whole hell of a lot more content in HD. Isn't that why we got into HDM, after all?

What a scary thought. I already thought the feature was stupid, now even more so.

I agree with you 100%!!!! I thought the whole buying "Toilet paper via my ethernet connection" thing was ridiculous. I don't want anybody texting me to watch a damn Harry Potter movie with them through my player and that person having total control of that movie!!!! "Send an invite through the remote control" let me translate that...TEXTING!!!!! Which means if i'm looking at a movie I will get a pop up that says "Quidditchmaster69 wants you to look at Harry Potter with him. Do you accept?" In the middle of my screen which is playing a movie i'm looking at!!!!!!!! Oh God...excuse me I have a headache..... And BTW is it me or is the fact that someone can invite somebody to watch a movie with them over the internet a little creepy?

Man...what ever happend to just watching a movie.

I believe M$ has its hands all over this added feature. It reminds me of the Office Ultimate 2007 feature "Groove" which offers similar functionality!

the art of manipulating the consumers is in play by the HDDVD group. Still they are still getting crushed by BD.
