How about if the person controlling the film stops it halfway through (as so many people are fond of doing here... there's a thread out there about players "remembering where you last stopped the disc". Those of you who have read it will surely know what I'm talking about. You know who you are!!! )? Will it stop on your system too? Then, in order to continue, will you have to go chapter hunting? I agree that this is the stupidest idea on the face of the planet!!! If you want to watch a movie with people... INVITE THEM OVER OR CONGREGATE AT A MUTUALLY HABITUAL LOCATION! For christ-sake, make it dinner and a movie so that we, as human beings, don't lose our social skills. Interacting THAT much in cyberspace can't become a healthy trend.

The people behind the 1-900 numbers might find a use for this though.

Seriously, is the text message with the remote kind of like with a phone where you have to walk through the letters? Seems like it would be a whole lot easier to talk on the phone or use a computer for that part (although somebody might have mentioned that). At least with the PS3 people could have a keyboard hooked up.

You know what I don't get?

I've learned that the extras on Harry Potter are in 1080p on the Blu-Ray version...but not on the HD-DVD. Yet this silly online chat thing gets all the attention, while in an article about this one movie and the differences...it isn't once mentioned that the extras are in HD on BD but not on HD-DVD?

I mean, extra features are fun and all, but isn't having HD content more important? At least important enough to mention in a conversation about the differences between these titles? I know when I bought HDM, HD was more important than...online chat. Which...my BD player does anyway. Heck, I'd suppose Sony could get the XMB overlaid on top of games and movies and therefore offer online chat to more BD owners on every single movie than the entire HD-DVD user base. Of course, Ill be honest...I still wouldn't use it but I just find it odd so many make a deal of these little functions while ignoring the biggest difference between these two versions...ie, one has a whole hell of a lot more content in HD. Isn't that why we got into HDM, after all?

I agree with you 100%!!!! I thought the whole buying "Toilet paper via my ethernet connection" thing was ridiculous. I don't want anybody texting me to watch a damn Harry Potter movie with them through my player and that person having total control of that movie!!!! "Send an invite through the remote control" let me translate that...TEXTING!!!!! Which means if i'm looking at a movie I will get a pop up that says "Quidditchmaster69 wants you to look at Harry Potter with him. Do you accept?" In the middle of my screen which is playing a movie i'm looking at!!!!!!!! Oh God...excuse me I have a headache..... And BTW is it me or is the fact that someone can invite somebody to watch a movie with them over the internet a little creepy?

Man...what ever happend to just watching a movie.

I believe M$ has its hands all over this added feature. It reminds me of the Office Ultimate 2007 feature "Groove" which offers similar functionality!

I heard from a friend of mine who works for a retail chain the the guy on the floor selling hddvd players is telling customers "no one is buying bluray hddvd is the way to go"I guess he sold a bunch of them in the last few months and not one bluray player. I find it sad when people lie about stuff I was told the guy was saying this stuff cause he make's more when he sells a hddvd player. That guy is playing a dangerous game It wouldn't surprise me if one of the customers feeling ripped off comes back and well asked for his money back or worse. No wonder their selling players cheap price+ stupid person= sales.

I agree, I think I have only ever looked at extras 2 or 3 times in 10 years of DVD watching. No matter what extra functionality is put in to Blu-ray, I probably will never utilize them either 99% of the time.

The best feature I could have is for the disk to go through into playing the movie upon load instead of bringing me to a menu with options for me to choose. I only ever choose "play movie"

Can you say class action suit by a few thousand parents? Gimmicks never compensate for the real deal and quality. Gimmicks don't help corner the market in your favour. A gimmick is just that. A pointless, useless feature that companies sell to the public thinking it will give them an edge over the competition. People just want to watch their damned movies without any outside distractions or interference of any kind. This one has to take the cake for the all time stupidest idea ever for any product.
