Default Launch details for the ps3

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6157152...stnews;title;0

The above link mentions that we will have about 500,000 ps3's for launch day, among other things. Nice to know how many ps3's there will be to go around. Nuff said.

I'm gonna try my best to be among those 400,000.

I'm just wondering when preorders will take place. I would think after the Tokoyto Game Show or when Sony starts mass production. I feel bad for Sony not being able to do a global launch, but it seemed hard to do.

Preorders, according to the Gamestop comanies will take place when THEY know exactly how many consoles they will be receiving for each store. That way, they can only take preorders up to the number of consoles that they will actually have. What they want to avoid, and some places have gotten themselves into - is that with the shortage of game systems, some people who have preorders will be lucky to see their system before Europeans do.

It is likely that October sometime will be the earliest. Maybe just a few weeks of preorders if they do it at all.

I don't think Sony will allow any preorders before the Tokoyto Game Show.

Here's how I think that it'll work:
Sony will prepare itself for the Tokoyto Game Show where they will reveal whatever it is and then after the Tokoyto Game Show, they will start mass production on the ps3. When October comes around, they will let all retail stores how many ps3's they have, which will be 400,000 at least in the States. They will need 400,000 preorders come launch day. When launch day comes around, they will ship out 400,00 consoles to the 400,000 people that preordered them. I don't think that we will have 4 mile long lines like with the xbox 360 because sony has to confirm that they have enough consoles to fill preorders before preorders come in. I don't really think that the delay will be a problem because think about this, Sony wanted to aim for a spring 2006 launch time before switching to November, however I think that the ps3 wouldn't have done very well if it had come out in the spring time, but that's just my opnion.

I wanted to add that it seems that the launch delay in other parts of the world is the latest buzz, but when Sony annouced that a global launch would occur, I had my doubts. Everyone needs to understand that Sony is working as hard as they can to meet deadlines. I think that 400,000 is a low amount, but then again, not everyone will want a ps3 on launch day. Another issue is that as of right now, only the next gran turismo game will be able to be played in 1080p, we will have this console for six years so in the years to come, we will see more 1080p games on the ps3. I think that now, we should focus on getting the ps3 out on time and then work on improvements.

There are stores that don't do preorders that will need consoles as well. This, specifically includes Circuit City, Best Buy, and Wal-Mart.

EB Games/Gamestop/Game Crazy are a single entity with about as much buying power as the other largest retailer - Wal-Mart. So, consider this: About 3,000 stores nationwide for EB/GS/GC. If 1/3 of all cosoles go to them, 1/3 to Wal-Mart and the rest to the other guys... That's only about 4 PS3 units per store!

Have no doubts, things will be crazy come mid-November.

I'm wondering when Amazon will get ps3's for us to preorder. I have an Amazon gift certificate to use. You know, you get a ps3 and you're set for 6 years. When I watch blu-ray movies on the ps3, I'll be sure to get a remote, assuming that sony makes one. The blu-ray players now are too expensive.
