NEW 2017 1080p HD MASTER!

SCARECROW (1973)
Run Time 112:00

DTS HD-Master Audio 2.0 - English; English SDH ORIGINAL ASPECT RATIO - 2.40:1, 16 X 9 LETTERBOX COLOR BD 50 Special Features: Vintage Featurette On the Road with Scarecrow; Theatrical Trailer (HD)

Just out of jail after serving time on an assault rap, Max (Gene Hackman) is headed for Pittsburgh to open a deluxe car wash. Back from five years at sea, Lion (Al Pacino) wants to hit Detroit and visit the child he's never seen. The dreams may not be glorious but you'll want Max and Lion to fulfill them, because Scarecrow, cowinner of the 1973 Cannes Film Festival Grand Prize, has a heart as big as its cross-country journey. Its hard-luck drifters drift permanently into our souls. This is due to teamwork of a high order: The moving performances of Hackman and Pacino, the sensitive direction of Jerry Schatzberg and the glowing landscape cinematography of Vilmos Zsigmond. Hit the road with these two. You'll find the trip unforgettable.

Just bought the DVD of this during the last WB Shop 4 for $44 sale. Still definitely plan on getting this Blu-ray, though.

I also bought "Straight Time", "The Morning After" and a few others, so I eagerly anticipate their Blu-ray announcements soon.

I always thought Criterion would release this title, but either way this announcement makes me very happy.

Great news, essential 70s movie with excellent performances from Pacino and Hackman.

Would really liked to see Schatzberg's criminally underseen Sweet Revenge get a release as well. I think it's also with WB.

This movie seems up my alley, will research it. Crazy that Hackman and Pacino both said it was the best script they ever read.

Sorry, Pacino, but it can't beat The Godfather's script, and I absolutely love this film.

To show how different 70's studio films are from today, just look at the actress they picked to be the wife of Al Pacino in Scarecrow. There is no way they would pick such a regular looking actress today for a major star. One of the many things I love about this film.

Another is that it was Richard Lynch's debut film. Pacino got him the role as they were friends in New York.

I've also heard Hackman say that after this movie failed, he was really depressed about it, and it led him to (generally) pick between conflicting offers based on which paid more rather than which had a better script. I mean, we all knew he made that choice at some point, but he acknowledges it and attributes it to this movie.

Not to take anything away from Pacino and Hackman, but the real star of this film is Vilmos Zsigmond.

Great news. I've caught Scarecrow a couple of times on DVD back in the 200X's. Extremely underrated film that you hardly ever hear about these days, and is yet another example of why the '70's was the best decade for cinema - hands down.

Really liked the genuine friendship between the Hackman & Pacino characters in the film. Also, Pacino's character here was definitely not the "tough guy" that he had been in the Godfather I-II; he played a completely different type of role here.

As with many '70's flicks, I can't see a movie like this being released today.

I don't own the DVD, and these days it's hard to track down. So, it's nice to hear that this will be getting a Blu release.

Definitely agree with this. These days, in almost any TV show/film you see almost all women are gorgeous, thin fashion models That's definitely not the reality, so it was nice to see that back in the '70's they were casting women who looked more "natural". Another example is Pacino's wife in another iconic '70's film, Dog Day Afternoon.

On another note, I hope that Straight Time gets a Blu release at some point. This is another '70's gem, and IMHO is Hoffman's second best role (his first being Straw Dogs).

Nice. The 70's truly were an embarrassment of riches cinematically, weren't they?

First day buy! 20th century Pacino was my favorite actor, and this is my favorite of his roles. I identified with his character because of the nuance and heart he put into the performance.

I'm surprised the Amazon price is $21.99, but I will get it no matter the cost!

It will probably come down on release date to $17.99. A little later after release date, it will probably come down a few bucks more.

Just watched this. Great presentation of a great movie. Really makes that Zsigmond cinematography shine through.

Does anyone elses disc of this have what looks like weird glue residue around the hole in the middle? I'm worried about the build quality of the disc. The paper sleeve is also way too big for the blu ray case, making it uneven and wavy. This is fixable though, I can just cut off a little of the sleeve's edge, the disc worries me more.

I know WAC are a small label and we should be happy that many of these movies are being released on blu ray at all, but they're not exactly super cheap so the releases should be of decent quality.
