Releasing DIAL M FOR MURDER to Blu-ray in its original 3-D, with a rumored upcoming 3-D Blu-ray of HOUSE OF WAX, is the first step in convincing me and likely numerous other collectors that a 3-D TV or even 3-D projector might be worth the upgrade. As soon as those two titles are joined by original 3-D editions of HONDO, CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, REVENGE OF THE CREATURE, IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE, KISS ME KATE, MISS SADIE THOMPSON, and maybe a few others, it will be time.
I sure wouldn't buy a 3-D TV just to watch HUGO and a few digital cartoons or even TITANIC, fun as they are in 3-D, but with a decent selection of classic 3-D on Blu-ray I'd be far more likely to upgrade to 3-D and might even decide to get some of the recent 3-D productions in their 3-D editions. (Might even break down and get AVATAR, which is only worth watching for its 3-D.) |

I leaped out of my chair in excitement over this bit of news today. Was a great surprise! I'm insanely happy that they are starting to release older 3D movies with today's technology. Makes me much more interested to check the movies themselves out imo

The same press release mentions House of Wax in 3d as Expected Next, and implies some others.

Excuse me if i appear naive, but could this be the 2D version just converted using modern 3D conversion software?
Edit - forget that guys, i have just found a quote on the house of wax thread which imdicates they are the originals and not conversions :-) Last edited by steelerik; 06-23-2012 at 07:45 PM. |

There is one shot that is diminshed by being in 3D. Two actors are posed in front of a process screen They are photographed in 3D with a 2D plate projected behind them. It totally betrays a special effect from staying non-obvious. I saw this projected in 3D back in 1980 in a theater. House of Wax is a different story. The 3D in this is quite effective, I saw it projected back in the 70's. |
