Arrow Why Blu-Ray is the fastest!

Quote:
The large numerical aperture (NA) value effectively means that Blu-ray will require less recording power and lower disc rotation speed than DVD and HD-DVD to achieve the same data transfer rate. While the media itself limited the recording speed in the past, the only limiting factor for Blu-ray is the capacity of the hardware. If we assume a maximum disc rotation speed of 10,000 RPM, then 12x at the outer diameter should be possible (about 400Mbps). This is why the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) already has plans to raise the speed to 8x (288Mbps) or more in the future.
Panasonic sayed it right!

Even at 8x that means maximum speed is 36MBps at the edge of the disc. That's speedy by today's standards but how long is this going to take to reach us and what about the reliability? These speeds aren't necessary for movie playback and they are about equivalent to lower end Ultrium Tape speeds.

I think that this could be a boon for video camera recording systems. If you could take the 8x speed and apply it to the mini Blu-Ray discs you might have a capable little system. Time will tell.

That would be great for next-next-gen gaming! It would be excellent for PCs and HTPC (write speeds for HTPCs...read/write for PCs).

52x would be crazy. I think that this would be great for HTPC and other similar tasks because of the large amount of writing and rewriting involved. My hope though is that we could get something that would thoroughput that kind of information.

I not bothered how fast the data transfer is as long as its stable, accurate and more important - quiet

Well so far LG have 4x PC Drive currently available ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=2476 ). 8x is the next step.
What do you mean "aren't necessary" ? Everything better, faster, stronger is necessary in this world!
