Interesting. I thought this had a decent chance of coming from Kino in the new Universal deal, but either way, this is a welcome release.

Completely agree.

And I haven’t seen this movie in probably 15-20 years...don’t remember much about it. So, it’ll be great to get it on Blu.

Got my shipping notice today! Can't wait to see it. I hope it's right in line with "Strategic Air Command" as far as the transfer goes.

I have the German version. I assume this will be the same master. I’ll wait for reviews. Shout has a terrible track record with quality issues.

No white specks or hair or dirt, but it was a little faded and lacked detail in some scenes. Nice colors, though. I wish it had been filmed in VistaVision like "Strategic Air Command." Overall, the transfer is clearly based on the early-2000's master for the DVD release and not a new one. I couldn't tell a difference between the two cuts, but I know there is about three minutes missing from the second version. The commentary is a little amateurish. To all those who do commentaries, if a person is listening to a commentary on "Glenn Miller Story" blu-ray, they already know about Anthony Mann and Jimmy Stewart's careers. I know the film is a little square, but if you can't comment on the film for two hours, then another person needs to be doing the commentary. This guy spent at least a third of the film talking about anything and everything, but the movie playing before him. If there wasn't enough gossip about the making of the film to fill the running time, then get a music buff to talk about Glenn Miller's career.

Oh, with all due respect to the commentator, "Rope" is highly problematic and Jimmy Stewart was terribly miscast.

James Stewart is my all-time favorite actor. And yet I've never really been able to love this one as it just doesn't feel as vital a perfomance as I usually get from him. I'll probably give it a another go for completion's sake, but somebody convince me I'm wrong, por favor.

I'll agree with you that it's quite square. Outside of the Anthony Mann-Jimmy Stewart and/or Jimmy Stewart/June Allyson context, it wouldn't rank very high on my list. However, I think a number of sequences are quite well done (Harlem nightclub jam session; Miller finding that 'sound' with 'Moonlight Serenade', and Allyson reacting to his death) and it was a big hit in 1954! I'd rank it upper middle of the pack out of Anthony Mann's forty-one films. As far as Stewart's performance, it's quite fine and professional, but nothing extraordinary. He was better in 'Rear Window' and 'The Far Country' that same year.

This Blu-ray arrived in the mail earlier this week.

The Glenn Miller Story is not exactly a movie that screams out to be watched, at first glance.
I'll buy any movie that has James Stewart's name on it, though.

Just curious...what do you consider his one bad movie? I don’t remember the name of it, but I remember one with him where he played a circus clown... it was horrible and I also hate clowns

I love Jimmy Stewart...and I do remember watching this movie maybe 10 years ago. I thought it was decent, but as another poster said, I wasn’t crazy about it. However, I’m definitely going to be picking this one up.

The Greatest Show on Earth from 1952, directed by Cecil B. DeMille.
