Default Canadian Digital Code Redemption Issues

Thought I'd start a new thread concerning digital code redemption issues here in Canada.

So kicking things off...

Bought Eternals 4K at Walmart this morning. I had a glitch with the digital code if you redeem to Google Play. It redeemed for a French copy rather than English. Contacted Google Play first, but they said to contact their partner provider so I called Disney Canada. Chatted with a customer service rep and they're trying to figure out where the glitch is. Could also be a Google Play glitch as they do have French and English copies listed on the site. The title and movie description are in French. When I start playing the movie, the beginning scroll is in French too. On RedeemDigitalMovie.com I did make sure that Canada and English was selected in the upper right corner.

If anyone has the same issue, let me know.

Haven't received my copy yet. This sounds similar to something that happened to another Disney release a couple of years back. I think it was Wreck-It Ralph 4K or something.

You did the right thing contacting both Disney and Google Play. Better to wait a little bit and let them fix the error before redeeming any other digital copy.

Btw, what a terrible idea to have separate listings. Just enable audio tracks and subtitles in multiple languages, no room for error that way... The other thing to do, which may be harder, is to having different title and synopsis showing on the store depending on the device language.

And, once again, how I wish we had Movies Anywhere compatible copies.

Good idea but can't be done with Eternals, as it has that beginning story scroll (like Star Wars), but it's all in French.

The Customers Service rep at Disney Canada said I was the first to bring it to their attention, so it could be a few days. She gave me another code to try and enter, so I did, but it said I already have it in my library, which means, the other codes they have are also for the French version. I did fast forward a bit into the movie to a scene where Selma Hayek was talking, and it was in English with no subtitles or French voiceover. Just like the opening scroll, I'm assuming the end credits are also in French. Haven't checked though. This is the first time I've had a redemption glitch with a Disney movie.

True, it's a bit trickier with that kind of intro. But it can be done. Easier done in digital streaming copies than branching in physical media, I'd imagine. The nightmare of multiple item IDs in a same storefront just makes no sense.

I'm sure they'll fix the problem with your digital copy sooner than later and it'll be fixed for everybody.

I'm such a buffoon. I remember reading this a few days ago but bought the movie today and redeemed the code not thinking. Still in French.

Give Disney Canada a call at 1-888-877-2843 (Canada), so they see I'm not the only one. They're available 9:30am to 6:30pm CST. A customer service rep pretty much picked-up right away.

I got French Eternals too. I'll send them an email or something but it doesn't really bother me, other than the opening text the remainder seems to be English audio and the end credits have french subs. I will rarely watch this digital copy since D+ has the IMAX version

Anyone have any luck with Disney and their Eternals French copies? I still haven't heard back, and going by comments on Google Play and Google Community, it happened to all the Canadian codes.

Some people shrug it off, but I bought an English copy and want an English digital copy. I don't live in Quebec!

Nothing resolved yet???? I still haven't redeemed my code yet, figuring its FRENCH too.

Has anyone had any luck from Disney for the correct English release?

I gave up. Haven't received any reply email. But, Eternals 4K went down to $16.99 so I said screw it, and just added it to my Google library. Kinda sucks, that $17 could've got me 8.5 litres of gas in Vancouver.

Disney better not f*** this up on future releases.

Just redeemed my digital copy of Eternals in GooglePlay - I got the English version. So it either isn't every Canadian code, or Google fixed the issue for redemptions going forward.

I bought Spider-man Homecoming 4K + Blu-ray + digital and when I opened it the advertised code had an expiry date of 12/31/2019. I figured no big deal, because it's still a relatively recent movie and codes always work after the expiry date in my experience, but the code came up as expired. I contacted Sony about it, and they claimed they extended the codes to 12/31/2021 as a "courtesy" to their customers. A lot of good that does me buying the movie in March 2022.

Anyone think there should be a class action lawsuit against companies with digital codes that expire? If they advertised the expiry date on the packaging I wouldn't complain, but it's misleading to advertise a digital copy and then you don't find out it's expired till after you buy the movie and open it.

I have a ton of codes I never redeemed. I was waiting in the hope that codes from 4K UHD discs would eventually redeem for 4K copies on Google Play. (Sometimes Google would give you a free internal upgrade, but that was very much hit or miss. Sony codes were specifically singled out for never getting promoted to 4K.) Now it is looking like I won't be able to redeem many of them at all!

A few years back, I bought a Blu-Ray copy of the original Planet of the Apes. The back of the box clearly indicated it came with an iTunes digital code and an expiry date that had not yet passed. When I went to cash in that code, it was only good on Google Play. No iTunes. I was pretty annoyed as part of the reason I bought the movie was specifically for that iTunes copy.

I don't think so. I think that's just a risk you take when buying an older title, even if it is just a few years old or so. They probably figure that if you were more interested in the digital copy than a physical copy you wouldn't have just bought the digital copy itself. The digital copy included with physical copies is just a bonus they throw in. And to be fair, there are plenty of digital codes that are still working long after the expiry date listed on the insert.

I think most do advertise the digital copy expiry date. I could be wrong, but I recall seeing these dates in the fine print on the back of the case/cover for movies that advertise a digital copy on the front.

Yeah, that shouldn't happen! Did you try contacting the company to complain? I was actually considering buying this from DMC, although I've sort of gotten used to them usually just giving Google Play codes lately anyway. I've redeemed a lot of digital codes from Disney and so far the only problem I've had was I thought I redeemed for Little Mermaid Diamond Edition on iTunes, but then it wasn't in my collection, so I tried redeeming the code assuming I had forgotten, but it said the code had already been redeemed. I think it may have got removed from my iTunes collection when they remastered the movie for the Signature Edition a few years ago, but by this point I can't even 100% remember whether I was able to redeem the code in the first place.

Yeah, that was what shocked me about this code being expired: there was nothing on the back of the movie to indicate when/where the digital copy could be redeemed, so I thought for sure it would be safe. Usually, it says something about the code on the back, and any time there's been a date the code still works anyway even if it's past the expiry date.

Disney finally got back to me saying Google fixed the issue and the email included a new digital code which worked for the English version of Eternals.
