Default Wondering if anyone else stores movies like this to save on space??

I used to keep all of my DVDs in the cases/slips they came with and stored them spines out and in alphabetical order on shelves. Then I got bit by the Blu-ray bug after seeing the difference in both audio and video. Massive upgrade and sell off of around 95% of my DVD collection ensued as I got them on Blu.

So after awhile the space was getting very low and I decided to order a supply of extra 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10-disc Viva Elite Blu-ray cases and free up much needed space by putting any sequels/prequels all in the same multi-disc case with the artwork (and slip cover if it is a 2-4-disc case) of the original movie. This freed up a ton of room and makes it nice and easy if you want to have a movie marathon of a franchise.

I use a different case if they have a remake/reboot.

Does anyone else do something like this to save space in their collection? Other ideas?

I buy steelbooks then pitch them and store the discs in binders.

Yes I do the same. Triple plays are handy because I can get rid of the dvd and copy and use the 2 disc flap for trilogies.

It does get annoying when they announce a new sequel that requires a box bigger than the artwork!

Nah.

I do remove slip-covers most of the time though, which has saved me a foot or so of shelf space. Also I keep some movies (my wife's, my more embarrassing purchases, DVDs I don't care about much) in boxes or drawers.

I get the multi disc Viva Elite's as well, however I make my own (lousy) artwork for them. I group them either by series or actor.

It would be great to keep them all in the original cases they came in but that would take up so much more room. Maybe if I win the lotto and build my dream home theater with adjacent room for all the Blu-ray, DVDs and CDs, then I'll be able to do that.

I couldn't be bothered to haul my entire collection across the country for the third time in so many years when I last moved, so I finally just said to hell with it and bought a bunch of these. Complete TV box sets I left as they were though.

I got rid of cases completely. I bought one of those things these use in Bingo to pick the number and threw all my disks in there. Now I just spin and see what pops out.

This is what I did, except the moving part, but I bought the leather version. I'm on my 2nd one. I recycled the cases but kept most of the artwork and kept the boxed sets with the discs inside them as they don't take up too much room, at least so far, but if it gets to the point where the boxed sets take up too much space then I might throw those out and put the discs in the binder as well. I don't want my room looking like a movie store or people seeing my shelf full of blu-rays and suggesting that I sell them. I keep the binders out of site and only have the boxed sets displayed on the shelf. DVDs that come with some blu-rays I keep in the blu-ray jewel cases and out of site as I don't want them taking up space in my binders unless it's a DVD that does not have a blu-ray version.

I still contemplate moving my Blu-rays into sleeves and binders like these, but I always worry about the effects of storage on the discs. It seems there's never been any authentic 'testing' to see how the discs fare, and the technology is still too new to get much information for or against. (Well, I always find more people against the idea on the internet - though most of those have never actually tried it...)
