Question SONY & TOSHIBA: enemies or friends?!

How could that happen? There is a rumor that sony recently sold to toshiba a ps3 producing plant. How does it correspond with logical aproach? Now ps3 (read bluray player) manufacturing depends of direct opponent on hd market? I can't understand anything...

We've already had a discussion regarding this subject on this forum a few months ago. Just remember, Toshiba helped design the cell processor that's at the heart of every PS3, so this news is really not that surprising.

Really old news. Sony and Toshiba may battle it out over the format, but there is no long standing feud between the two companies. Correct me if I'm wrong, but japanese business culture is based on longstanding networks and something short-term like a format war would probably not affect the rest of Sony and Toshiba's working relationship.

Like gvortex7 says, this was mentioned a while back. It's just business between 2 Japanese companies. Besides Toshiba are going to need something to make them a profit after all the money they've thrown away needlessly on HD-DVD.

well, then it is more strange that toshiba support own format, since sony was allways leader in media field (inventor of flopy 3.5'', cd, etc).

It is a standard make vs buy decision that companies make. In this case they sold a particular plant that is responsible for making cell processors which are used in electronic devices including the PS3.

Act of good will, perhaps. There has to be some blu conotation to this. Sony wouldn't fork over the plant if Toshiba just turns around and screws them. "HA HA, no more chips for you! HD DVD WINS! NYA NYA!" No company in this format war can be that stupid.

However, if this turns around and bites Sony in the arse, consider it a direct and intentional act of sabotage. I know I will.
