Default So is it just my TV, or are inglorious basterds & Public Enemies...

So is it just my TV, or are inglorious basterds & Public Enemies dark movies? As in, literally the picture is darker? It may be my ****** HDTV, however. Anybody have any tips? Any settings you'd recommend?

They looked perfectly fine in mine. I have to admit Public enemies is definitely a little dark, nevertheless both movies are good transfers, though some might not be happy with the grain seen in Public Enemies.

Hmm alright. Anybody else notice Public Enemies being a little dark?

if it bothers you just adjust the brightness when you watch it.

Well public enemies is a dark film in general in alot of parts and some parts in inglorious basterds you should try properly calibrating your tv and if you don't know how try looking up a calibration setting for your model online and tweak it to your liking

also if you are playing it on a PS3 make sure full RGB is off

I bought Inglorious Basterds last month and it wasn't dark on my screens (I tested it on a 25'' Sansui CRT and 26'' Vizio HDTV). However I was somewhat disappointed that there wasn't really much of a difference when I compared it on both screens. Still, it looks pretty decent.

On the other hand, I also bought Terminator Salvation. Did the same comparison on both screens and was able to see many details that I missed on the CRT. From wrinkles, skin pores, sweat droplets, tiny moles, dots, down to the metallic indentations on Marcus' skull.

P.S. I followed the settings guide on CNET and haven't had to change them yet because they work very well for all the movies I've seen on my ps3.

I would tweak it some, those settings were used in a completely different setting it changes on lighting etc.

i used settings that i found online from my tv and liked them then learned how to calibrate and after doing so the picture looks EVEN better

I found Public Enemies to be more dark than a typical movie. I think it's just the way it was shot. Even most of the outdoor scenes don't scream brightness at any time.
