Default Mecha on blu ray

I have been thinking of checking out my first mecha series. I have no idea where to begin though. I tried watching the Evangellion movies but couldn't get through the first one. It was too confusing and not all that interesting to me. Series that I've really enjoyed include, Shiki, DBZ, Deadman wonderland, death note, Witchblade, FMA original and Brotherhood, Black Butler. I'm fairly easy to please, I'm just looking for a few good options to start with. My only stipulation is that it's easily available on blu ray. If it's only available on dvd, but really cheap I would consider it, but would really rather blu ray. Thank you for any and all suggestions!
