Smile HDMI Cables: How do you tell which ones are 4K?

I recently bought a 4K TV and wanted to know how I can tell if the HDMI cable's I have are 4K compliant. Is there something on the cable that will tell me that it's 4K compatible?

It will either work, or it won't, there is no inbetween.

https://www.cnet.com/news/4k-hdmi-cables-are-nonsense/

Don't buy into the '4K HDR Compliant' $350 cable bullshit.

I'm probably being pedantic but I just make sure to buy ones that are labelled 'premium certified'. They're available from Monoprice for cheap and they have a tag which shows they're genuine. It's probably unnecessary but they don't cost much.

Nemesis, what HDMI cables did you go with? I just ordered the same LG OLED TV as you and am now sorting out the hookups required. Also, does your soundbar work with the TV just fine, or is the soundbar not really even needed, given the Harman speakers on the TV? I'm also trying to figure out whether to run the TV through my existing Pioneer receiver (VSX-1021), which handles 3D but not 4K, or just make direct connections with my Apple TV and PS4.

Thank you. This article answered my question perfectly. I just bought the Sony UBP X800 and had an extra HDMI cable lying around since the X800 didn't come with one, and everything SEEMS to be sending a proper 4K HDR signal to my 4K set. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't possibly compromising quality at all.

I could be wrong, but I think you'll need a new receiver if you want to run 4K through it.

I want to be sure I have this correct, so I have 3 4K TVs and players that support HDR10 and they all seem to produce very good image quality but one is better than the other 2 yes is the most expensive one but still! I have tweaked the settings on the TVs and players as best as I could using my own manuals and online guides (Rtings.com is my favorite). Anyways I have ran out of things to try so I was thinking about buying 3 upper end HDMI cables. So as it stands the image quality on all 3 sets is pretty close to as good as its going to get. Is there absolutely no way possible that buying some new HDMI cables could improve the image quality at all, not even by 1/10 of 1 percent?

I appreciate coming across this post because I was about to spend ~$150+ bucks on 3 new HDMI cables for my 3 4K TVs and Christmas is just around the corner and a hundred & fifty bucks is a nice chunk of cash which id love to be able to keep! THANKS!

There are going to be obvious issues with HDMI cables, or there aren't. Blackouts/dropouts, white noise or nothing. If there aren't any issues you are not going to get a marginal improvement in picture quality.

The box usually states if the cables are 4K compatible on the front.

Unfortunately that's not enough, as I found out myself.
If you want 4K60 ánd HDR you need a cable that has a bandwith of 18Gbps.
Usually they are labelled as Premium High Speed.

I had some cables that were able to display 4K, but nót with 10-bit colour and HDR. I tested the cables on my Denon receiver and indeed they failed the 4K60 test.

Don't fall for expensive bullsh*t cables from the likes of Monster and such.
Amazon has plenty of cheap and capable cables.

You don’t need a $350 cable, but a good Belden/Blue Jeans is a must. Digital either works or it doesn’t is the biggest misconception. It’s fundamentally wrong and not how anything related to digital actually works.
