Default Costs of Technology - Everything is Relative

I remember when my dad and I went to Crazy Eddies (I believe) in the 80's and bought our first VCR. The damn thing cost $500 or more. Movie rentals were all it was really good for because movies would cost $70 or something when they were released. Hell, I think movie rentals back then even cost $2 or $3 so that number hasn't grown either.

When I see people complain about the costs of the hardware or software these days, I just smile. You're getting a theater quality picture and awesome sound on a player that should cost $1,000's of dollars and software that should cost hundreds of dollars if we just took my dad's first VCR and increased it for inflation.

Sorry but when I can buy a PS3 for $399 and movies on BOGO for less than $20 each, I've got nothing to complain about. Except maybe gas prices which is why I buy all my stuff these days online.
