".....a Sony rep cited internal research suggesting that over 80% of all PlayStation 3 owners had watched at least one Blu-ray movie on their systems. It was also revealed that the Blu-ray profile 1.1 firmware update for the PS3 is expected to be made available for download later this month."

If this happens it will be good news for all the ps3 owners who watch blu-rays including me.

It has to be coming this month just like the Home beta trial. The sole fact that Resident Evil Apocalypse is 1.1 (Jan 1, 2009 release) compliant and most PS3 owners who have an HDTV watch Blu, there is no reason especially when Sony doesn't want to screw up how well they are doing. I bet profile 1.1 will be included in 2.03/2.1 firmware update before the 25th of this month. From what I remember Warner said they had Dev. Kits with 1.1 on the PS3, from this site.

It would be great if that was also included in the update, but I will be even further in debt, cos' I'll have to buy an HDMI capable receiver. Oh well.

Doesn't it have to have DTS-HD-MA processing to be 1.1 complient?

No audio codecs have nothing to do with what vesion a player is.

BDA has mandated all hardware launched after October 31 must support BD-J enabled picture-in-picture video playback, 256MB of persistent memory, and (for players with an internet connection) 1GB of memory for downloads.

Not really all that important...its just one of those things HDDVD supporters have used as a bullet point against Blu

I am sure that others could explain it better,but the 1.1 profile allows for some of the extra features like decoding a second video decoder for features like PiP it is basically all about interactive features. Essentially it adds BD Java features.

I forget where I heard it, possibly on digitalbits.com, but I specifically remember it being stated that dts-ma will come out before x-mas and profile 1.1 before new years.

Well, it's more important than that - it matters to Warner, and what matters to Warner matters to all of us. Thankfully things seem to be moving along nicely and Warner are reported to be happy with it.
