Exclamation Logan's Run Remake.

Hey,

Yes its another one.

Joel Silver discusses the remake of the Film:

Quote:
LOGAN’S RUN

1. Says they’re working on the script now and the film was almost in production then Bryan Singer went to work on Superman
2. Says “ten years ago, there weren’t that many young movie stars who could star in a movie like that. But now, there are a lot of young actors who could do that.”
3. Confirms the new adaptation goes back to the book

================================

Update:

We Have a Director for the Film.

Quote:
Director Carl Rinsch has been hired to helm the remake of the 1976 sci-fi flick Logan’s Run. Here’s the brief synopsis of the film per Heat Vision:

The premise sees a future society that demands the death of everyone upon reaching a certain age. Anyone who veers from that destiny is dubbed a “runner” and is hunted by operatives known as Sandmen. Logan is a Sandman who is forced to go on the run.

Rinsch first garnered attention as he was previously attached to helm the prequel to Alien. He was then replaced by Ridley Scott. But that defeat was short-lived as he is now attached to a slew of projects. First, he got on board the feudal Japan flick 47 Ronin. Then he was hired to direct a remake of Creature From the Black Lagoon. Rinsch then directed a short film called The Gift that ignited a bidding war for a feature film adaptation. But Rinsch is only the latest in a long line of Logan’s Run directors. Hit the jump for more and click here for the interview with producer Joel Silver who provided several updates on the project.

Warner Bros. has been trying to get a Logan’s Run remake off the ground since the mid-90s. Interest was renewed when Bryan Singer came on board in 2004. However, he left the project when given the opportunity to direct Superman Returns. Since then, the project has passed through directors Robert Schwenke (Flightplan), James McTeigue (V for Vendetta), and Joseph Kosinski (Tron Legacy). Will Rinsch be the one to finally get the remake to the big screen? I’m not sure. The guy’s got a pretty full plate already and Warners is currently in the process of a hiring a writer.

Singer had begun previsualization work on the project before he bolted to do “Superman Returns” for the studio. “Flightplan” director Robert Schwenke and James McTeigue were helmers that had been associated with the project, while Joseph Kosinski came attached to it in 2007. (Kosinski has since been busy with “Tron Legacy.”)
Enjoy.

They've been planning Logan's Run for atleast five years back when it was Singer and Matt Damon. I bet they get Shia for the lead.

Ok, well I don't know many popular actors who are young enough to pull off the role. All of young hollywood I've always liked is now approaching 30, and I believe Logan's Run had an expiration age of 27 if memory serves correctly. Only 3 names come to mind for me, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ben Foster or Ashton Holmes and they are starting to pass that age for the most part. So it would have to be done soon to keep me interested.

I think they should expand their horizons by having an unknown getting the role. It worked will with Brandon Routh for Superman, tough shoes to fill but he did a good job. Unfortunately the movie bombed instead.

I haven't even seen the original "Logan's Run" yet! The idea and concept of the story always sounded very cool to me, but the previews and small clips I've seen of the film, never intrigued me enough to get around to seeing it. Anyone here consider the original to be top-notch and/or worthy of a remake?

The original is a masterpiece in my opinion. You should consider watching it.

You should. Keep an open mind though because the movie is really old so the visuals aren't as spectacular as today's. Still you will end up liking it.

It was younger than that I believe. I wouldn't mind a remake if they stay closer to the book. The original, which i love, has some significant differences from the book. Especially the ending.

The issue isn't about how old York was in the original. Its more of Traditional Vs. Adaptation. Old VS. New. Will the new one manage to give the audience the same experience given to the original.

It's been a long time since I watched it, but I think you had until 30. Logan's went off at 26. At least that's what my brain remembers after...20 years?

For a second, I wondered if this thread was going to be about Minority Report. I think the two are pretty similar.

AISTR, the floor dropped out from the bottom of "Nostalgic 70's sci-fi remakes" after Rollerball, and it was ONLY Bryan Singer who was keeping the Logan's project going, for his own idiosyncratic reasons.
(And then, as noted, didn't have time for it anymore.)

As to why everyone else around him is digging it out of dead-as-doornail status now, I smell the strong aroma of "Expiring book/project rights"...
