USA Sony Supreme Cinema series... Dead in the water?

Any more releases to come in this series? Quite enjoyed the 3 releases so far (Leon, Dracula, The Fifth Element). But no news on any more?

2016 is almost over and not a peep on this front. I'd assume it's dead.

They released one for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in October. I'm sure there will be more in the future.

They should have just saved this line for UHD. I mean the 3 titles they released don't even make sense. They are are solid flicks, but they are "supreme" in nothing except (presumably) for the fact they were 4K remasters. But they have other great 4K remasters. So why slap "Supreme Cinema" on just those 3? Who the hell knows.

But I do know that just stopping and starting collectors series after 3 titles isn't going to help them sell any next time they come up with some bright idea.

Not sure what you mean here, I would say the four movies they have done were all great movies that are highly respected and loved by many. Also the "Supreme" label is just marketing, and surely refers to the new master and full extras.

Whatever Sony call them I am sure they will keep releasing 4k remasters, because they are the studio doing the most new scans in the first place.

The 'Supreme' label itself is chiefly about that fancy book packaging as well as the other stuff, which is why the standalone remastered discs (that are IDENTICAL to those in the fancy pants case) aren't given the same designation; they ain't no Diana Ross when it comes to the packaging.

Don't expect any more of these - I sued them for cutting my finger on the glass cover.

Just kidding. If there's ever an award for worst packaging these would win top prize.

Sony's blu ray moves in regards to the catalog titles are bizarre to say the least, so nothing they do shocks me.

It would be nice if they'd release the original 3 as UHD. If someone has a contact, then it would be great if we could find out which titles, if any, are in the works for this series.

Somehow I missed this one. Still, I'm not sure if one release this year is going to do anything to resurrect this series.

I'd have expected some of their 3 disc dvd editions to have made it to this series, like Panic Room and Black Hawk Down. Instead they're giving PR to Twilight Time. It doesn't make a lot of sense.

I know it's "just marketing". But they still had many more movies that they could have added to this line that have 4K remasters ready to go. Just add some good extras and voila. Supreme Cinema series. So while I understand it's marketing - what I'm saying is to launch a "collectors series" and then abandon it right away is BAD marketing. I really think they should have saved the whole concept for UHD releases. "Supreme Cinema Series" would have been a cool marketing angle to get their catalog UHD started. Only top of the line 4K masters on UHD disc, and loaded with extra on an extra blu-ray disc. Surely they could commit to a few dozen for UHD and see how it goes to there.

I just think if they only launch 4 titles it's kind of wasted.... each time a studio tries to launch a "collectors series" and then doesn't follow through it leaves less credibility going forward. For example, I'm sure people are expecting a few dozen titles from Lionsgate Vestron, if they just stopped at 4 or 5 I think people would be massively disappointed. (which is what I was that the StudioCanal Studio classics only had a few releases from Lionsgate in the U.S., when it was initially billed as something that would compete with Criterion).

Starship Troopers is getting a remake. I'd love to see the original remastered with some new extras.

I really liked this packaging. Would be a shame if this is all we got.
