Amiibo!

Hey all! Nintendo's Amiibo's are out now.

What is your impression?

I personally don't play Smash Brothers so my experience has been limited.

I can't wait for the Hyrule Warriors update so that I can see what Amiibo's do with / for that game.

The race suits in Mario Kart are pretty lame...

So far they're underwhelming, especially in the flagship game (SSB). Iirc the only thing added to Hyrule Warriors is the spinner.

I wanted to collect them but the fact that you have to destroy the packaging to get them out negated that idea.

I'm going to buy one to level up in Smash Bros, just read that a level 50 Fox amiibo got 3rd place in a smash tournament.

I think I'm going to buy a Skylanders or Disney Infinity collectors case to store them,and then start buying them. I have a feeling they will be integrated into more games in the future. But I think $12.99 is a bit pricey for them.

Wario and Little Mac are my go-to characters... but no Amiibo's for them.

It's just a glorified memory card. Personally I think these along with the Skylander/Infinity figures are shameless cash grabs and an attempt to milk gamers out of additional money for content that should have been available in the game in the first place. 13.00 for a little 2-3" statue? Pfft! No thanks.

Watched a video of this on YouTube and they don't seem to be being incorporated into games to their full advantage. I thought Amiibo was the toys actually appearing in the games (like Skylanders, for example) but so far it looks as though that's only the case with Smash Bros.

Only Smash uses's the toys really. The other games just give you costumes or items.

I understand it perfectly. It still doesn't justify what they're trying to do.

I'm not going to be getting all due to some of them not being as good as they were shown on E3 but most look OK.

Of course due to this, I won't be buying them online as I want to see them in real life as to how their paint job, figurine body and more are composed. Yeah, I know it's for kids but I like to get quality products for what I'm paying.

Except the kids that buy these use them for more than just the game. A lot use them like action figures. It's the same as going to Target and buying a Captain America figure or something. Except with skylanders/Infinity you can use them in game and outside the game.

I don't think that's very appealing. I think Nintendo need to rethink Amiibo; the toys should come alive in every game, not just Smash Bros.

I agree, hopefully future games allow it more but even the early 2015 games like Kirby and Yarn Yoshi seem to only give you extras for using an Amiibo.

You'd think it would be a no-brainer to have every game utilise Amiibo like Smash Bros, wouldn't you?

Yeah, Knowing Nintendo they could have come up with an Amiibo game all in it's own or come up with better implementations for future games.

Luckily for Nintendo these are selling well so they win either way.

They are all the same. It's up to you which characters you like. I'd get your 2 favorite characters. But Link is no better than Mario or vice versa. It's all about if you like the character enough to want a figure of them.

Personally if I had to get 2 it would be Link and Yoshi.

Amiibo could be like the Miis if done right. I'm surprised they are selling well at the moment. I think they're lucky. If people weren't already familiar with games such as Skylanders and Disney Infinity, I honestly think Amiibo would have flopped.

Aren't some currently compatible with more games than others?
