Default Question on PSP UMD's

I used to own a PSP then I traded it in when I bought my PS3 last year. Anyway, I used to be into buying the UMD movies...

I have been thinking about getting another PSP lately.

I was wondering are they still making UMD's and is it on a regular basis?

I don't see commercials for it like I used to before....I was kinda wondering if they weren't selling all that great, and if they stopped making them altogether...?

They're still around, the good thing is they don't cost as much as they used too. There's not much studio support for them, as many people do not purchase them, but they're still supported.

It's led Sony to think about PSP-TV since support has fallen a lot for UMD's. I've also heard "rumors" (but I don't have any links right now), about Sony giving other companies rights to UMD technology, as well as a future plan to release UMD support for the PS3.

Anyways, my advice...
...if you want a PSP for gaming and movies, they're amazing little machines, just for video watching, than just get mobiTV for your laptop, smart phone/phone. You might also want to consider Sling Box or other such things that are out there.

You can still find them online at Best Buy, Fry's, Amazon(I think), JandR.com, and Sony Style. They recently released Superbad on UMD. Also try EBay, they have a lot and are pretty cheap to boot.

They are still around, but many people just steal movies, even for their PSP. Another thing is now that you will be able to rip movies from a Blu-Ray (legally with BD Live), that format may finally be killed by Sony themselves. I have many UMD's myself.

I was in Futureshop today and noticed some UMD's for 6.99 Canadian. Mr. & Mrs. Smith for example. Movies made by Sony (The Messengers, Vancancy, The Marine, etc.) are still being put on UMD and have seen some animated releases.

i think its mostly just sony's movies that are being released on UMD. i know that there used to be like a few studios who supported it but they basically gave up on it but not Sony

The last UMD to be released here in the UK was Spider-Man 3 just before X-Mas. Only Sony support the format now.

When the slims first came out, I found Fifth Element and Spider-Man 2 for $4.99 at Wal-mart.

Do you think Sony will release UMD-Live for the PSP? Since PSP has WiFi functionaility. That way, you can download or view stuff such as pix, video trailer and special features or access to blog.
