PS3 Can't Play Used Games!?

I just got off the phone with someone from Gamespot, and he said that PS3 is rumored to not play any preowned/used games. I'm not sure if this was known before, but it was news to me. Again, this is just a RUMOR.

If it doesn't, it would probably use games like Steam does for HL2 and other Steam games, registering a game to a user or particular system. That would suck if you wanted to bring a game to your friends house. But it would be cool if you could just log-in and play it. I'm not sure if this will happen or not, but if it does Gamestop and EBGames said they may not even sell the PS3, since pre-owned games are pretty much what they're all about.

i believe i remember hearing that sony was interested in the possibility of not allowing people to play used games, but they're probably interested in a lot of possibilities. and i haven't heard anything to suggest that they were actually doing it. but i've been out of the loop for a bit.

personally, i kind of doubt that they will do this. at least not right away, anyhow.

i don't really care, though, because i've pretty much already accepted that i'm probably going to have to have a crazy haxored ps3 anyway. so, sony can do whatever it feels is best and i will do whatever i feel is best.

No, it isn't going to happen. Sony has developed the technology to make something like this happen if they have some product they can implement it on. For PS3 it may never have even been considered as a real possibility. But, since Sony developed technology to allow it to happen, some people VERY INACCURATELY, jumped to the conclusion that it was specified for PS3.

Very old rumour, been debunked months ago. PS3 will play used games just fine.
