Default Bond uses Blu-ray!!!

Hi everyone, I was watching Casino Royale and at 28:35 into it Bond pops a Blu-ray disc into a Sony Blu-ray player to access the taped video of the hotel camera of the phone call. I thought it was cool.....

My fiance and I pointed that out to each other at the exact same time. You knew that Sony had to throw that in there, especially knowing as well as Casino Royale was going to do.

Sony went a little too far with the Sony gadgets in Casino Royale... everything was blatantly Sony.

Bravias
Blu-ray
W810s/P990s/K790s for phones
etc.

Those are all excellent products (I love Sony Ericsson phones and their Bravia's are rather excellent), but it really stuck out more than usual on this movie. If you look for it most Sony Pictures movies use Sony products exclusively, but most of the time it isn't as noticeable.

With that said, I loved the movie.

However the loading time of the pre-recorded security footage is wrong. I mean come on it loads in 2-3 seconds. Was it like a custom made celebrity player ?

Maybe the security system was using the power of the cell chip thus allowing it a fast loading time ?

There was a TON of Sony product placement in this movie and I noticed it all the first time I saw it in the theater. The phone, laptop, blu-ray disc, digital camera, pretty much anything electronic was Sony.

Bond's k790a is a pretty badass phone. I almost bought one, but $400 bucks is a little steep for a phone.

I loved it as well, but I also feel the Sony product placement bordered on criminal. I'm surprised they didn't make the producers change the name to CaSony Royale!

The first device shown is in the pre-title sequence the wonderful NW-HD5 As the villain opens the drawer of his desk you'll see it there.

I've had one of these since its European launch in June 2005. Absolutely stunning sound quality for a portable and a constant companion on my frequent business trips abroad. I hope its got a few years life left in it as I'd hate to opt for a smaller HDD on the latest NW's.

Movies are always like that. Remember in Day after Tomorrow when all the news casts were fox. I wouldn't expect them to give free promotions to someone other than themselves

Yes, Casino Royale is one giant Sony commercial. It's the one thing about the movie that sits a little uneasily with me. I think they could have toned it down a bit.

I would disagree I thought the product placement was subtle yet straight to the point. Come on in this day and age James Bond would use a lot of cutting edge technology so when SONY made this movie and the director asks for Laptops, gadgets, data recorders - why would they use a different brand. Thats as silly as Derek Jeter wearing a red sox hat when he's at a club.

Agree. Product placement is out of control. All "blockbuster" studio films are silly with it. Silly I says.
