What I mean is where a filmmaker or group of filmmakers is given essentially complete creative freedom, on a top level budget, to create a film however they like, without the studios getting final cut or having to follow guidelines to create something palatable for the public, creating something incredibly unique and almost unprecedented, that many love and many hate but all find to be much unlike anything they've seen.
Films of this sort have been made since 2001, but they were almost always of a significantly lower budget and production value. I find it hard to see auteur creatives being given such a large amount of money and freedom simultaneously in the current film climate. |
