I was pleasantly shocked by the $34.99 Blu-ray list price for Orphan Black S1. BBC America's first original drama, Copper, had a first season that was also 10 episodes, but its Blu-ray list price is $59.99.
Could this have anything to do with the budgets for the two shows, meaning that Orphan Black had a smaller budget than Copper, so BBC Video didn't need to have as high a list price? The writers/producers of Copper are more well-known, and perhaps there was more set design (also, I know Copper used some CGI). |

Could be because it's Canadian, and BBC only decided they would distribute it.
Seriously, this is shot in Canada and is run by a Canadian production company, and stars Canadian actors. They're not even trying to hide it. |

![]() Temple Street Productions, the production company responsible for the show, is based out of Toronto, although the BBC owns a 25% share in it.In addition, Bell Media's also playing a major role in it. So it's not just being filmed in Canada, it's a Canadian production. Copper also is produced by Canadian production companies, Cineplex and Shaw, which also makes it Canadian, although it's better at masking its Hoser origins. In contrast, Bates Motel is an American TV show, as the production companies are American owned (the major one being Universal Television), but the show itself is filmed in British Columbia. Smallville was another show produced by Americans, yet made in Canada. That's how I differentiate between American and Canadian TV shows, not where they're aired, TV setting, or filming location but who the production companies are. Also, if this were meant to be American, they would have done more to hide the Ontario licenses, license plates, Canadian Cash, the airplane ticket, etc. I think the show is deliberately trying to confuse people with the NYPD vehicles and mugs, while leaving everything else Toronto, since the show is a thriller/mystery, with tons of confusion involved. |

Really want to blind buy this, but I already have more than enough shows to watch on Blu-ray right now and this is kind of expensive right now given how low the MSRP is.
If I do end up waiting, this will be the first show I get whenever I get through the backlog of shows. |

Don't watch too many tv shows, most of them drive me up a wall when I'm channel surfing, but did watch this one all the way through. Thought it was really good. Looking forward to the next season. (If I had a bigger wallet would definitely pick this up, still might (wish I didn't feel the urge to type that last part, but...))
