Default Blu-ray Paramount deal

Why was Bluray signed with Paramount and it went HD only? I still see some titles on Paramount like NACHO LIBRE and MI:3, what was the reason?

Well paramount got $150 million from Toshisoft. And it did not pull out the titles it had released on blu.

Officially, they said that it was because the players are cheaper and that would appeal to people more.

They were also given a lot of money. Including money to use Shrek in HD-DVD ads.

If you see those titles, you might want to grab them now since they are officially out of print.

HD-DVD paid Paramount to go exclusive. All titles previously released (like Nacho Libre and MI3) stayed in the market until the product sold out. They didn't destroy all Paramount BR product but they didn't replenish any orders after they went exclusive with HD.

For instance I just recently put a Blu-ray section into some of the Blockbuster stores I help run. Most of the Paramount titles I was able to buy a couple months ago were no longer available because paramount stopped replenishing distributors.

So can you guys tell me, where everybody is getting that whole 18 months idea? Especially since Paramount has said over and over there is no time frame, that they are just HD exclusive, period.

The same Viacom execs that leaked the $150 Mil to New York Times also said about the time frame.

There are tonnes of threads about it, but none of them have any links to anything about it, or the ones i've checked so far, to be fair, I'm not gonna waste my entire day with this. Also, your NY times link cites no sources, still not viable, although....it is the new york times.....one of the swankiest rags around.
